Hello all,
This is my husband’s blog page, but I wanted to share some helpful things to do to keep your strength up.
After diagnosis of Squamous Cell Carcinoma in February, he has had the surgery and has finished 20 of the 30 RAD treatments.
He has had a lot of trouble swallowing in the last week. Here are things that help:
1. Sinus Rinse-morning and night (he hates it, but it helps)
2. EAS shakes low carb ones are thin like milk 110 cal. and 17grams of protein(very important) so if you can still eat, these are great in-be-tween meals.
3. Myoplex Shakes have 300 calories and 42 grams of protein.
4. Boost has a new protein drink with vitamins that is great.
5. Fruit smoothie with powdered Whey and Soy protein (can get at GNC or grocery or Trader Joes) Cut up fresh fruit and freeze. Apple Juice, protein and frozen fruit.
6. L-glutamine powder 10 grams 3 X per day (we put it in the protein)
7. Multivitimin daily, crushed in shake if you can't swallow.

If you can't eat, you need to consume a minimum of 8-10 of the high protein shakes a day.
Please remember the protein is what will keep your muscles strong and recovery faster.

We still have 10 more treatments to go. I will keep you posted.

Please take care of yourself during treatments.
GOD SPEED TO HEALING for all

    Welcome
Welcome to the forum, glad you and your husband are doing well through this tough rdeal.

One thing you might mention or consider, my Chemo MD always wanted to know what minerals and vitamin supplements I was taking. Mainly so as to not have anything to interfere with the chemo and associated drugs.

Not so much the drinks and such, just any pill or capsulated type supplements.

    best,
    John

    Thanks, He only takes Juice
Thanks, He only takes Juice Plus and vitimin A&D. You are right the doc said nothing with too much antioxidants because it could interfer with the effects of RAD. It is getting tough these last couple weeks, but we are hanging in there.
    Cheers,
    Patty
