Has anyone ever used Caphasol?

I have used it...
I've used it, though when I needed it most I was too sick to want to use it.

It is good relief of mucositus, dry mouth and mouth sores. My problem was that I had enough fatigue and nausea that I would rather sleep and stay still. Waking hours were for forcing myself to drink Ensure and keep up with my pain meds. Sounds like I was a mess doesn't it!

I was...but now I'm just over a year post treatment and feel terrific. Eating well, working out, back to work full time for the past 10 months.

Salt & baking soda rinses work very well too.

Hey Mike,

I used it all through treatment and beyond until the sores were gone. I didn't have mucositis problems and only a few sores; unfortunately they were in the worst place possible and prevented eating early on. I think the Caphosol worked quite well and was really convenient. I recommend it.

I did not use it.
I asked for it, and my doc gave me a prescription but warned me it would be very expensive and there would be other products that would work as well or better. Some folks here noted that it didn't help them all that much, so I never filled the very expensive prescription. Baking soda and salt dissolved in warm water and swished frequently - kept me comfortable.

but heading toward the end. I started when I was still "tanning" and have kept at it since though not necessarily as many times a day as before. I have got a couple of weeks left in this case and am thinking of stopping with this. My rad onc asked if I was still on it a couple of weeks ago and when I said yes he said that this was good. But that may be because I was in the very last stages of mouth sores and he thought it was still doing some good. I'm going to stop soon because my mouth is finally 99.9% healed. (It still hurts if I try to drink gin or red wine though.)

I actually believe that it did me good but one can never completely isolate the effects of any one treatment given all else we were doing to me. And I cannot say that it would have been any more effective than the salt water or glutamine rinses, etc.

It was not expensive as it was prescribed and the cost to me was only $30 a case but this has now doubled because the "special" is over. But even so this would only work out to pennies per dose. However, if it had cost hundreds we would definitely have gone for the home remedies.

I am not six months out from end of treatment and, if I hadn't had the subsequent neck dissection and a bit of internal damage then, would probably have been able to stop earlier. In some ways that set me back months but still, I am glad I did it as it was good to clean it all out. I hope you get to the point where you are seeing all of this in the rear view mirror.
