in Ovarian Cancer #1
Hello Everyone,

My name is Janeth & my Mom was diagnosed for the 2nd time with ovarian cancer stage 4 :-(
I'm devastated with the news!!! I'm afraid she won't be able to handle her chemo treatment that will b starting next week.
what can I do to make things more easy for her??? Please help!!!!

    I am sorry your mom is out of remission ,what kinf of chemo will she have?? She might handle her tx well. Hugs and prayers to the both of you...val

    being there ,cooking light meals,making sure she is getting rest, and offer support with is really needed. I am sure you know what to do as you did it before...val

    Thank you for your reply! to be honest with you I'm not sure the name of the treatment she will be getting. Unfortunately I haven't been able to focus lately :-( I've been dealing with this news since December of 2010 because my Mom didn't want to get Chemotherapy treatment although thanks to God she finally changed her mind.
    When my Mom was diagnosed with cancer for the 1st time in 2007 I was single & no babies although now I have a family of my own & I can't see to figure out how to be there for both.

    Hi Janeth,

    So sorry to hear about your mom having to get in the ring again with the horrible beast. My daughter was a blessing to me. If it wasn't for her, I don't know if I would have made it through that 2nd round when I got it back again.

    The one thing that my daughter did was make me eat. All I wanted to do was come home from the treatments and just go to bed and sleep. She would wake me up and make me eat something. And I knew that I had to but I just didn't want to. She kept after me.

    I was taking taxol/carbo at the time and after the fifth treatment, I told her I couldn't do it anymore. She pleaded with me..."Mom, you only have one more treatment. You can do it." Well I did and I know your mom can too.

    My hair started falling out two weeks after my first treatment. Two of my grandkids live with me and we made a game of it. I let them buzz part of it off. I didn't want them to be scared when they saw me bald but being a part of the whole process was very easy for them.

    If your mom wants to cry....let her cry...just be there to put your arms around her. That is good medicine.

    I'm sorry to ask although did you try any alternative medicine??? like herbs? My Mom is drinking this Chinese tea's that are suppose to help with the cancer cells & Flor Essence to...have your heard of it before?

    At one point someone gave my mother some Chinese medicinal tea to drink, and it turned out to be some sort of mushroom. My mother drank one cup, end of story. I think there are mushrooms with potent pharmacological properties, however.

    I never would have thought that my 80-year-old mother would have made it throught chemo for recurrance, but she did! And then recovered from the flu on top of that. The human spirit can be an amazing thing, be prepared to expect miracles.

    I don't do any alternative medicine. Not because I don't believe in it...I just haven't done it. You might want to start a string about alternative medicine. You will get answers from those that do. A lot of the women on this board are very knowledgeable and can help or tell you what they have learned.

    I want you to know that your mom will become a fighter. You will see a change in her. All her instincts will come out and she will be strong in her fight. And she will amaze you. Give her a little time.

    We all have our down times but we also have our fighting mode....just watch out....we all come out swinging and trying to hit anything we can.

    One thing too....listen to her. If she wants to talk about the disease, don't change the subject. You have to realize that you both have jumped into a new world. A world with "the beast". And everything we do or say.... involves the beast.

    Most of all..look for laughter in anything and everything. I know it has helped me and I am sure it will help you.
