Libby's Update

My update from app't yesterday.

Stopped Doxil as CTscan showed disease progression - ascites & 5mm (very small) spot on Peritoneal in upper abdomen. With rise in last CA125 this tells my doctor that Doxil is not working, so since I am in a clinical trial I have to stop the doxil.

We have elected to cross over to the PARP inhibitor which means we will have 8 more weeks of going to The James every Monday again. This inhibitor and chemo will be in pill form. 7 days of one and 5 days of other and then start over every 4th Monday.

Dr. Copeland said that I would die from this disease (ovarian cancer) unless a miracle happens (he told us he does believe in miracles). I am glad he does - we do!☺ Chemo will not cure this stage of cancer (usually). His job is to help to give me a quality of life and to help to extend as best as he can. He only has so many bullets in his gun he said - this trial is a one time shot. Jerry asked would he recommend this PARP to his wife and he said yes. If it does not work we still have several more chemos.

He asked me if I had any questions - I said no just a comment. Our bodies can withstand a lot can't it and he said yes our bodies can - and I said we truly are wonderously made.☺

God Bless Each of you Teal Warriors with many more years!

Love You,
Libby ♥

Sounds like you are traveling this journey in grace & peace.
I just think you're great, Libby. I feel your grace in everything you post. I hear SUCH good things about PARP inhibitors; I'd jump at the chance to try that treatment myself, and hope the very best for you that this will reverse that disease progression.

How are you FEELING? Still feel good? As long as you enjoy a good quality of life, you can be happy and at peace. I see that in you, girl. Happiness. :D

    Love the photo with your
Love the photo with your little ones, Libby. I am sure they bring you much joy. Sorry the Doxil has quit doing its job but the PARP inhibitor along with chemo offers you a new and innovative route. You don't have an expiration date and miracles do happen every day. So fight on!

Btw, I noticed from your profile that we were both undergoing surgery back in Jan '08 on the same day -- and we are both still here and fighting :-)

Sending positive thoughts your way for success with this treatment.

    Sweet Libby!
I love your new profile picture with your family. And I love your new hair cut, you look great. How are you feeling?

I'm sorry the doxil stopped working for you. What chemo are you going to take with the PARP? Keep us posted. I take it that you will need to drive a ways every week.

    Many blessings to you

    be ready for a miracle
Libby: I believe in miracles, too.

Learn what you can about maintaining chemosensitivity. Here is an interesting link from the cancernetwork.com web site about cancer & inflammation that may give you hope:

I wish you the best of luck
with your treatment and I too love your picture. I am 63 and so afraid I will never hold a grandchild. This disease robs us of so much but it doesn't seem to be able to take the fight out of us. So keep fighting.

    Dear Libby
Doxil didn't do the trick for me either. I'm in a similar situation and gemzar/carbo was the next chemo for me. It kept me steady for the past seven months, but I have to change again for I can't tolerate the carbo any longer.

Those are a couple of beautiful litlle ones that you are snuggling. They keep us fighting for all we're worth, don't they!

    thanks
    Ladies,

Thanks for those encouraging words from each of you.

Had my chemo (Temozolomide) with my PARP (ABT-888 or Veliparib) today at my appointment and will take the other 4 PARP before bed. Then continue rest of the week.

Found out my CA 125 is up to 210 from last Monday when taken. Was also taken today.............find out next Monday! ☺

I am so thankful to be here with our 6 grandchildren! I do thank God every morning when I wake up from a good nights rest and for life here on this earth with my family and friends! I do know that the best is yet to come.

Have any of you been on this trial? I believe at The James OSU GYN Oncology in Columbus that I am 1 of 16 on the trial. I also believe two have passed away and know of one lady doing well on the PARP/chemo. But really have not heard of much anywhere else.

    Will keep you updated.

    Libby ♥

    Good Luck !
I am crossing my fingers and toes for you. I hope this will be the treatment that gives you a long break from chemo.I don't know anything about Parp, is it a very difficult treatment ? Your Dr. sounds great, he sounds like he is going to help you fight this disease any way he can.
