I live in Utah and I really want a dentist with experience with radiation to the mouth. If anyone know anyone in Logan, Ogden, or Salt lake city utah I would love information. Or if you ask one of your doctors. I've heard so many great things about Dr. Anderson and I'm curious if he would know anyone in Utah. I'm just desparate to have someone know exactly what they are doing and how to handle all the problems with my mouth. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you,
Linda

Dental problems, post-tx, is a common thing, Linda. I've had a root canal and two Crowns since my last rad, and the bottom of my top teeth rebuilt. Putting-off getting the next two Crowns for awhile- a $ thing. Don't know what your specific issues are, but some of us may be able to help.

I had to go out to the U of Iowa, which has a Dental College, to find-out I should be on Flouride Trays for the rest of my life, and to sleep with a either an upper or lower tooth guard. My regular Dentist didn't have a clue about such. And after tx I had gum issues, which resulted in getting the needed help from a Periodontist- whom I was sent to by my Rad Dr.

You live close to the Universtity of Utah? They have a Dental College? Might be a good thing to check it out.

You are on the right track. Most regular dentist do not have experience with the special needs of head and neck radiation patients. As Kent suggested the University should know of dentist who specialize in comprimised dental cases. I would also suggest talking to the radiation oncologist who treated you. That is how I found an oral surgeon who treats most of the head and neck patients from our local cancer center.

Hope this is of some assistance. Keep us posted on your findings.
