Glad you're happy about getting 'de-ported' and don't worry it'll go great. Actually in 3+ years when I get de-ported, I think it'll be neat to watch it come out (but then I'm weird).

Yea for Deportation!
Don't be afraid, and certainly don't be apprehensive about the removal. I also had mine removed in the surgeon's office, and it really was a piece of cake. I didn't want to go under anesthesia again, so choose to do it "like a big girl". The whole process probably took 30 minutes (numb the area, slight stick to deaden the underlying tissue, small incision to get to the port, and then I didn't feel a thing when he removed the tubing(. The only casualty was my hubby, who came in the room with me. He passed out while they were removing the tubing, and they had to call in staff to revive him. So, in our family, we always advise everyone not to take an observer with you. It is so much harder on them! Let us know when it is over. Hugs, Judy

Hubby's can be so funny!
There is no way that I would allow Hubby to be admitted while something is being done to me - or anyone else. He 'flops out'. When we were moving back to Whidbey Island from the Mojave Desert, younger Son had gotten his thumb caught in the topper door - squashed it good. Drove on to Whidbey, unloaded the horses and then took him to ER on base. Well I stayed in the truck with older Son and Hubby took him in. I fell asleep and a bit later I was woke by a nurse tell me I needed to come in - there had been an accident. Accident - in the ER - OMG. Nothing was wrong with Son - he had broken the bone in his thumb between the last joint and the end but no big deal. They had been drilling a hole through the nail to releave pressure and Sandy (Hubby/Dad) had passed out and hit the floor. Broke his glasses and put a good gash beside eye. There have been other times - but that was the worse one that he did to himself. Somehow he is accident prone and when he's done something to himself - he will seldom look at it toady - he just sits down and YELLS Susan!

Don't worry about being "de-ported" you will have us there to hold your hand. Sorry to hear your mom has to go to rehab but I am sure it is for the best.

MY doctor now listens to me
NOT a port..but I had finger surgery while awake...I warned everyone and they wouldnt' listen...I was not very good...OMG terrible..then when he took stitches our in office...on way out..i passed out cold in lobby...he said OK next time I know you are serious...so few weeks later surgery on other hand...knocked out and in office laid me down to remove stitches..SO I can relate...

I HOPE your mom is adjusting and doing ok..

I had my port removed in January as an outpatient in the hospital. I was awake but numbed and all went well. It did take several weeks to heal. Hang in there. Hope your mom is ok.

Thanks everyone and you were right.....it did not hurt at all and was done rather quickly....probably only in their 15 minutes!!!! I only felt the prick of the needle to numb area (kind of burned)....but then nothing at all...no tugging or anything. The same surgeon who inserted it, and did my mastectomy is the one who removed it today. Yeah...it is a better feeling than I imagined...kind of like saying, ok---I am done with this now!
So now I am joining all of the sisters who have been saying it is no big deal and over quickly! Don't be afraid when they want to deport you! Hugs to all
