Stomach problems

Hello all,

I seldom post but try to get on-line as often as possible to keep up with your discussions.

I am 8 months post-op Ivor-Lewis procedure and from what I have been reading here I have pretty much gone through the same problems and maladies as most of you. I am currently having problems keeping food down and seldom reach required daily calorie count. I am down 72 lbs since surgery but as my oncologist says, I need to lose some more yet. :o)

I think I may have stumbled onto a cause for my current eating/stomach problems. I am constantly and at this time pretty much constipated to the point of cramps and very few movements. It seems to me that when I do have a small movement the indigestion and urge to vomit goes away for a few hours and I am able to eat a little. I do practice the many small meal recommendations. My Oncologist stated yesterday that
I will just have to live with and sort out the stomach problems. What do you all think? Could this be due to constipation? If so, does anyone have a good recommendation for both a stool softener and a laxative I should try?

    Miralax
Although not now necessary, Miralax was recommended. Are you getting enough fluids? Stomach problems do come and go. Hope you get relief.

    Miralax
I agree that Miralax is the answer for constipation. You can also purchase over the counter stool softeners to take as well. You will find you will feel so much better once your body has gotten back to functioning daily.

    My dad had really difficult
My dad had really difficult issues with the constipation, he tried many over the counter meds. The one thing that did help was Laci Le Bough Tea. It is a senna tea. My best to you with this issue. I have spoken to many who have struggled with it and some have had to make trips to the ER. I hope this helps, you can purchase the tea at a health food store I have even seen in Puritan's Pride their web site is www.puritan.com
I hope this helps, my best to you

    constipation
Hello mrkokomo and welcome to our ec discussion board. What do I think? I think your dr. gave you some bad advice!!! You do not have to live with your stomach pain or your constipation!!!! That is just ridiculous. My dad passed from ec in March 2010. He experienced constipation, caused mostly from the pain meds he was taking. His dr. prescribed a liquid laxative called, Lactalouse. He had to take this 2x a day for the rest of his life. It worked, as long as he took it. I would suggest that you ask about this type or some type of laxative. Hope this helps! Keep in touch.
