Join us Walking, Swimming, Cycling, Weights, Paddling, Jogging and get SURVIVAL BOOST

This post started out as walking, but we are an open minded bunch and now we have 4 exercise types listed in the title. Just move if you can.

We also have the unique 100,000km 30 year clinical trial being run here. will anyone make this target, dare is say even earlier than 30 years. It would be just so amazing. Obviously we will all have to live that long to get an invite to the party.

In Sydney Australia, sylvania to sutherland. Bottle and all.
This is the walking post. I am walking to the naturopath right now.
I feel fine, with energy just bad diarrhea. Its good having a bag, I don't have to find a tree anymore. haha

If you have some energy and are well come for a walk with me today. A walk around the world if you will for 10 minutes to 5 hours whatever you can manage. going to do this everyday.

I used to hear " an apple a day keeps the doctor away "

Now I say to myself " a walk a day keeps the monster away"

search on exercise colorectal and recurrance, for details.

come on couch potatoes up and addem and move.

love to all,

Pete

ps I am out the door right now.

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/prevention/physicalactivity
1. What is the relationship between physical activity and colon cancer risk?
Colorectal cancer has been one of the most extensively studied cancers in relation to physical activity, with more than 50 studies examining this association. Many studies in the United States and around the world have consistently found that adults who increase their physical activity, either in intensity, duration, or frequency, can reduce their risk of developing colon cancer by 30 to 40 percent relative to those who are sedentary regardless of body mass index (BMI), with the greatest risk reduction seen among those who are most active (3–7). The magnitude of the protective effect appears greatest with high-intensity activity, although the optimal levels and duration of exercise are still difficult to determine due to differences between studies, making comparisons difficult. It is estimated that 30 to 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day is needed to protect against colon cancer (6, 7). It is not yet clear at this time whether physical activity has a protective effect for rectal cancer, adenomas, or polyp recurrence (3).
Physical activity most likely influences the development of colon cancer in multiple ways. Physical activity may protect against colon cancer and tumor development through its role in energy balance, hormone metabolism, insulin regulation, and by decreasing the time the colon is exposed to potential carcinogens. Physical activity has also been found to alter a number of inflammatory and immune factors, some of which may influence colon cancer risk.

Hi All,
I walked for 1.5 hours today. I think I get double credit since I push my 100 lb daughter in her special needs jogger. What do you think? We have a lovely walk around our neighborhood, up the hill where there is a great view of the ocean and through the beach park. It is wonderful.

Cheers to all of you.

Aloha,
Kathleen

PS Dick was at the gym when we were walking. He is in better shape than I am.

i am glad you and dick are being fit and healthy.
i too am heading into the gym to a few extra muscles here and their.
imagine if everyone on the board walked 10kms per day everyday as a priority.
i thinks its achievable.
the health benefit, is proven, simple and something we can do ourselves. its also free.
i wish we had some more adventurous types here that would come walking with us.
hugs,
pete

thats my story for chemo day 1 and day 2. Did manage a little exercise, but we cannot discuss that on the forum. its not been a smooth day with forum dramas. I should disable my access on DEX days. I just love hearing about your exotic overseas destination. Oh places we can visit in our imagination.

keep it up pepe. you inspire me. tom has joined us below. We are like Laurel and Hardy. You can be Laurel and I'll be hardy he was the really big guy. thats me.

We can be the personal trainers and travel advisers for the forum. All for free. You cannot get better value.

I hardly touched any food today and gut is about to implode. the joy of folfox. bottle off tomorrow and a barium enema.

Keep up the walking if you can, until I am back on track and on the track. Hopefully tomorrow.

hugs,

Pete

Pete invited me to chime in here. I am not walking as it is still too cold here in Maine, and the shoulders on our roads are a bit too narrow. I do bike with a bicycle set up on a magnetic resistance trainer though - averaging 10 miles a day. I did not do it when I was on the 3 day folfox/folfiri routine, but tried to do it on any non-chemo day. Now I will be on a new regimen of 2 oral drugs essentially every day - hope to keep up the biking though as I am in training for a big ride in June. I plan on doing the "Trek Across Maine" again this year as it was a great ride last year.

I do feel much better and more energetic the more I exercise.

If you signup for the 100,000km challenge and i hope you do.
here is the good news.

you only got 99,990 kms to go.
now at 10km per day its gonna take about 30 years..
now I am just telling my little
colorectal friend, he can have me after the walk. I won't tell him how long it is.
With a bit of luck he will die inside me before I do.

"just in case"

the killer today is the barium enema, been leaking, in pain, oh the joys of treatment haha.

we met some friends down at cronulla beach and did an hours walk with my kids and our dogs and scooters. then we had a mexican dinner again which was great. I am still exercising but probably need to raise the intensity to get the benefit suggested in the studies.

did anyone get a walk or exercise in today pepe or anyone else ?

from my recent dabbling science it seems the benefit of exercise for reducing colorectal recurrence risk maybe lowering levels of igf.

Pete

Hi Pete and all,
I know I am the caregiver but I need to stay healthy. So, today I did stand up paddling about 2 miles. Out to the island and back. It was great to be out!!!
Hope you all got moving. Each one of you is amazing.
Dick jogged 4 miles and then went to the gym. (He unhooked from the pump #37 on Thursday) He swears he feels sooooooo much better after he works out.

Aloha,
Kathleen

i have edited the title to include paddling and jogging.

i don't want to leave dick out.

awesome. And dick is pretty impressive with the 4 mile jog.
I wonder what we have started here, gee I may never be able to get out of exercise again.

exercise does not come naturally to me, so the supporters of this post help me to
get off my couch.

thanks,

Thanks for adding our sports. :) Today Dick did a 1.5 hour hike in the hills behind our house with our dog. I, on the other hand did nothing. (Not exactly nothing, I had to give our daughter one of her infusions.)

Thinking of you.

Keep moving.

i did a good walk with dogs this morning and had a lovelly breakfast of fruit salad and sated mushrooms and tomatoe at this cafe about an hours walk away with a sexy blonde.

She turned out to be my wife. It bucked down rain and we enjoyed our time alone under this big umbrella. It was very nice.

The walk is from my house, over a bridge, across a big park.
