I don't want to read it!

Hello all,
I have applied for disability retirement from the California Teachers Retirement System. Today I got a phone call from the caseworker assigned to me at CalSTRS. She said that due to the severity of my condition (Stage IV OVCA) she would not be requiring medical records, but rather a letter from my doctor stating my prognosis and the date of my diagnosis. I am to FAX it to her when I receive it.
Tomorrow, I see my GYN/ONC to review my CT scan and talk about next steps. I will ask him for the letter then. Last week the chemo Dr. called and said that it showed a blood clot in my leg, but the CT scan was "better", so he didn't think more chemo was needed, he wants to watch it for now. I just don't know what "better" really meant. Please pray for a good report on my scan from the GYN/ONC.

I JUST AM SO AFRAID TO READ THE LETTER!

Thank you, Christine

    Christine, I am hoping for
Christine, I am hoping for the best for you. If Stage IV OVCA is good enough for CalSTRS to simply want official documentation, why can't they use a letter with your diagnosis, rather than your prognosis. The prognosis is statistical anyway, and you are not a statistic. Can you call the caseworker and propose that?

    Perhaps have the Dr. office
Perhaps have the Dr. office fax it directly to CalSTRS? ... I know it would probably be very hard not to want to read it...but it may simply be a rehash of the Stage IV general stats.

I don't know if you can send it on without reading it , I couldn't, but whatever it says is probably a generalation(can't spell) of out comes. We all know the bleak statistics but we also know for one they are old and we are living longer and better each day. I'll bet if alot of women who died ten years ago were given more hope a percentage of them would still be here today. Good luck on your scan and consider yoursef HUGGED when and if you do read your letter !
