    Happy Mardi Gras to all
Hope you're having good parade weather there in Louisiana Cynthia. It's crappy weather here in Indiana ... but I found a grocery store here in town selling King Cakes ... so I brought a couple in for the co-workers and students (I'm at Indiana University) ... and I'm sure most of them will not have a clue what in the world a King Cake is ... but ... tough luck. It's not what I'd call a "real" King Cake ... it's more of a very plain coffee cake circle thing with purple, green and gold sprinkles on it. But ... If I can't have cherry/cream cheese filling ... this will do.

A few years ago I make a huge King Cake from scratch ... and was doing just fine until it got time to decorate it. Have you ever tried to color icing PURPLE??? I had no idea what colors I needed to match. Checked the web ... and finally found some "recipe/ratio" (don't remember what it was) ... but it still ended up looking brown. But ... it was the thought that counted! I celebrate Mardi Gras and the rest of the folks just have to put up with it. :-)

    hugs.

I have my strands of multi-colored beads on. However, lifting up my shirt to get more may not be pretty!!!

I've never heard of a paczki, but it sounds delicious! We have beignets--they are a square of pastry that is thrown in a deep fryer so that they puff up--lighter inside. Then they are covered with powder sugar and served with cafe au lait (very strong coffee and milk).

Now I'll be on the hunt for a paczki. Love to try new foods.

My 5 yo granddaughter celebrated at her preschool and they made King cake. She was so excited to tell me there was a plastic baby in it :D DH & I had pancakes for dinner Monday. We should have waited til yesterday. I've never been to New Orleans and thinking about taking a cuise that departs and arrives in New Orleans.

    That's my little sister.
That's my little sister. She's the one in San Diego. We grow up like litter mates, constantly bickering. Now I miss her soooo much.

About Lent, I am sincerely reflecting on it, but I haven't picked something per say to give up. I am not Catholic, but I sometimes do give up something. I am going to continue to meditate on it.
