Help with nausea!

I had my third TAC treatment on Tuesday and the doc switched my nausea meds and told me to take my prednisone and zofran around the clock with a little help from ativan. Still having trouble drinking water or tea, any other suggestions I had some banana and crackers but the liquids are feeling nasty on the tummy. Thank you

I found sipping the name brand ginger ale helped me. I also had some ginger cookies that I carried with me and nibbled if I started to feel the slightest bit nauseous.

    Hang in there.

    So sorry
So sorry you are having problems with the nausea. I was so blessed and did not have much trouble at all with it. Maybe you could try popsicles or just eating ice. I love to eat ice. That would just still get some fluids in you. I would call the Dr. to try another med if it keeps up. God Bless

    Hi Lori,

Sometimes a small pice of crystallized ginger to suck on helps calm down nausea or even small sips ginger tea.

I'm sorry to hear your feeling poorly.

    Ginger Ale
I don't remember anyone telling me about it, but I craved it. I made sure I had cases of it in the house. Also since I had no taste buds - I'd sip soup. I'd make sure the veggies and meat in the soup were cooked way too soft and let them slide down the back of my throat. It made sense to me to make sure I was getting my veggies in - and since they bypassed the tongue, they had a little flavor. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the nausea medicine my oncologist gave me, but it worked wonders. I am seeing her this afternoon for my weekly bee sting, and will ask her. Before my chemo she would start the drip with the little bag of nausea medicine, then give me the pills for later. They were extremely expensive even with insurance. But boy did they work.

    what really helped me
    Lori,

I took the anti nausea medication and on days I didn't what really helped me
Ginger tea. The brand that worked best for me was Yogi Ginger tea, it's quiet
    strong and very effective.

Another venue I would try is aromatherapy, I found it really useful.

Some oils have specialties: Rosemary improves poor food absorption, and peppermint
treats irritable bowel syndrome. Basil overcomes nausea from chemotherapy or radiation
treatments (even when conventional antinausea drugs have little effect). You can find
    these oils at whole foods.

And just so we have everything covered (: Trader Joe's makes some yummy Ginger
chews, that really help too. I would take a little bite and just hold in my mouth.

I hope you find some relief.

    Hugs,
    Ayse

    Frozen Jello
Try some frozen Jello (whatever flavor you like). I like it best just as it's got ice crystals in it as when totally frozen it's rather hard - not solid like an ice cube but it takes more 'energy' to get a spoonful of it.

    Are you getting Emend? That
Are you getting Emend? That is the antinausea drug that most of us get. If you don't have it on insurance, they usually have some samples in the chemo room. The nurse used to give them to me cause my copay was still $70. for it, but it's worth it!

I was told the any food that "melts" is considered a liquid. I ate Bryers Fruit Bars very slowly also crushed ice. By the time it hits your stomach it's already melted and absorbed. Like dyaneb, I was on Emend but the cost was $325.00. Because I couldn't afford this, my oncol. office got me into a program where the manufacturer donated it. I was also on Decadron and Compazine all worked for me.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Just started my FAC 3 weeks
Just started my FAC 3 weeks ago. All these comments are very helpful. I tried Powerade as it has the electrolytes that I needed from being sick. About to have the second round this next week and will keep the powerade and crackers close by as well as some of the suggestions made here. Good luck - it does get better each day!

    Hope the tummy is better
Just a hug to you! Don't have any great ideas for you but my onco did give me a prescription for what she called "break through nausea" that you could take between the regular prescribed nausea med. The one they use is mixed at the hospital's pharmacy but I looked online at the 3 meds in it and it looks like they used meds that hit different nausea trigger areas of the brain. Maybe your oncologist could suggest something like that.
I read this fun sounding idea of putting frozen grapes in your ginger ale to add a bit of nutrition!

    Meds that worked for me
Hi - I had a very rough time with my A/C treatments ( I was sick as soon as I got home from the cancer center ). Along with Zofran and Emend, they gave me Anzemet ( 100 mg ) that I was to take once / day. I also used Cesamet when I couldn't control it with any of the other meds ( this did make me pretty dizzy, but helped me get through the treatments without being totally sick ).

Good luck - hope you feel better soon!

    Compazine works for me
Hi I am new here but thought I'd tell you what works for me. I have 2 more taxol tx's left to go and still suffer from acute nausea. When I am feeling nauseous, really nauseous, I take a zofran and a compazine. Zofran alone is okay, but somehow adding the compazine really kicks it out. You may want to consider asking your onc about it. It's an old stand-by, but very effective.

I am sorry you are feeling bad. I hope you feel better soon.
