Southern California - Sisters, while registering -- I notice that I had an option to do so - as an individual, or group. Are we registering as a group, if so, what is our group name ???? Registration is $35.00 per individual.

Group names: Sassy Sisters from American Cancer Society - Southern California division
Feisty Warriors - Breast Cancer Survivors - So. Cal. Girls

Or .. my favorite, -- shy Vicki and friends

Also, I am actively trying to get 'Braun Medical' out in Irvine/Tustin to provide sponsorship -- problem is that already have a team in place -- for May 7th walk/run. Do we wish to join that group ..

Revlon got involved in cancer research when Dr. Dennis Slamon of UCLA was developing a new drug--Herceptin and ran out of funds. The "Her2" gene is owned by drug company Genetech so Dr. Slamon had to follow their rules for research. Well Genetech was going to drop the research funding so a patient's wife of Dr. Slamon, Lilly Tarkikoff went to Ron Perelman head of Revlon to ask his help with funding. Revlon saved the day and donated 2.4 Million. It may have been 4.2 Million, you know chemo brain messes with my memory. Anyway that's how the fundraising from Revlon started. You can see his story in "Living Proof" staring Harry Connick, Jr. as Dr. Slamon.

All us Her2+ owe our lives to Dr. Slamon and Revlon. I live in CT and want to do the walk in NYC. Yicks, I'd better start getting in shape or I wont be able to walk a block never mind the whole thing. lol.

You've got some really great names.

Sher43009 .. Thank you for the back ground -- I was
on Herceptin for 1 year -- and had my entire family, friends and extended family watch the lifetime movie when it came out.

Sally5 .. we missed you, as well as our other Southern California WARRIORS.

Hoping to see you all again at our next reunion -- later part of May, or at the Revlon Walk/Run on 5-7-11.

    Take care of yourself.

May 7th .. Cancer Kicking --Kindered Spirits it is ..
are we required or want to carry a flag/banner during our 2.5 mile walk? I've created and hand made several 'soccer' banners in my lifetime with 2 kids playing AYSO soccer for years -- so if a flag/banner is needed, please let me know.

Also, I am thinking that perhaps we can list all our names (screen name or real) on our banner, in addition to our beloved lost angels? What do you all think?

I would also like to have a pink/white birthday cake on our banner with a statement ..

    Just a thought .. We celebrate Life, and Birthday's .. 1 day, 1 week and 1 month at a time --

    Participants so far:

    KathiM
    Bella Luna
    Chenheart
    Siobhan
    Aisling8
    Faith_Trust_ and little_Sass
    Cindy Flynn
    shy, Vicki Sam
    Alexandra (shy vicki's daughter)

    TraciinLA ?
    Trace?
    Jennifer1961?
    New Flower?
    RE?
    Merry ?

I would also like to extend a welcome to any Sister in PINK - Kindered Spirit to come out and join us .. should you find yourself in the Los Angeles area on May 7th

Let me know what you gals think .. okay ?

    VickiSam,
    I know that I am

    VickiSam,
I know that I am not one of those that will participating in this walk but I think that your flag idea is just terrific and the cake idea with that statement is too perfect for words. I, for one, would be honored to have my either of my names on a banner or flag. I think that for all of you to be together and walking is just absolutely wonderful. You will carry the spirits of all of us and all of our angels. Thank you all for doing this. I participate in Relay for LIfe each year and I am still amazed at the feelings it brings every time.

    I have a story
So. My best friend fought this disease for nine years. Every year we did the Revlon Walk. Sometimes with her daughter, sometimes with her husband and his daughter, sometimes friends joined us. But always she and I did the Revlon Walk, even when I left L.A. , moved to San Diego. So one year it was just the two of us and we talked about after she was gone, would I continue -- yes, I said, I'd still come up for the walk, I'd do it with her daughter (my goddaughter) and her husband and stepdaughter. I asked her if she'd like us to carry a sign with her picture on it. Oh, no, she said. No need.

Well, approaching the coliseum is emotionally overwhelming -- the drummers are drumming and the crowd of walkers narrows to enter the tunnel and funnel into the coliseum where the survivors are handed a beautiful rose. Just at that point she turns to me and says "Yeah, I want you to carry a sign. A big-a$$ sign."

She died. I included that story in my eulogy mostly so I could say "big a$$" in Catholic church. Her husband had a huge big-a$$ sign made, requires poles and two people to carry. That's what we will carry. It has a big-a$$ picture of her so all of you can see how beautiful she was.

    And that's my story.

    Love to all, Victoria

Is it only LA and NY?
I went online to see other locations (like Sacramento) and only see LA and NY. Is that right? I'm impressed that it's for all women's cancers, not only bc.

I'm going to think about driving down to do it. Just have to figure things out. Anyone from northern California interested in this?

Suzanne from what I can gather information wise ....
New York and Los Angeles only. I hope, pray and wish that another sister in your area is able to carpool or ride with you. How much fun .. would that be!?

I can and will be able to pick you and others up at the airport, bus station or train depot .. Just an offer, if anyone needs that assistance.

Suzanne .. just let me know.

Will check in next week on this
I'm visiting my bff in Santa Cruz this weekend. We used to do a lot of walks together. She had cervical cancer a gazillion years ago - and besides, she's my bff! I'm going to talk to her about doing this with me.

If that doesn't work out, I have a few others in mind, so it's really just a matter of me making the commitment. LA isn't that far away, but it's so big!

What is most attractive to me (in addition to meeting you all) is that this walk is for all gyn cancers. I don't think there is enough awareness for these other cancers. I'm not not supportive of breast cancer walks/awareness/fundraising by any means - I just think the other women's cancers don't get enough press. It just feels like the right event for me.
