CEA Dropping again now 2.5!, BUT......NEED SOME HELP FROM YOU !

Doctor is very happy , since last pet and scanner from 2 month ago showed nothing and since then ,we have lowed CEA from 8 to 2.5 he believes
everything is going very well and no surprises expected next scan ! But..... Alkaline phosphatase is quite high and also some other liver enzymes,hepatologist is not too concerned about, he things is a side effect from chemo.My question: Any of you have ever had Alkaline phosphatase or other transaminase elevated while or a few weeks after chemo?.
I will appreciate all your comments and suggestions .

    Hi there. Yes, I had elevated alkaline during treatments. It has been normal for some time now. I think fluctuation is normal. My doctor wasn't too concerned, and it seems he was right. Anna

    liver tests
    Right now all is normal Pepe. I never was told the number, and I guess I never asked. I always knew my CEA number and bloodwork counts but because the doctor didn't seem too concerned, I guess I wasn't either.

    Unfortunately, my CEA has been climbing. I've had a new test just done, so I'm waiting on that. But I do feel really well, and so I try to just focus on the positive. Having this board is a big help.

    Hi Pepe :)
    My Oncologist told me that it is common for liver enzymes to fluctuate especially after, and during chemo and even more so if you've had any procedure done on your liver. She stated that certain foods and even a drink of alcohol can effect the liver. If scans are good and CEA is good dont worry--- You are on your way to kicking cancer BUTT!!

    My alkaline phosphate was near 270 and it's supposed to be about 120 at normal high. My doctor wasn't worried about it either. Said that it was probably caused from the chemo and they were right except it took about 7 months for it to go down to high normal range after completing chemo. Congratulations on the CEA dropping. Awesome news.

    Mine is. 800! not too worried about since last year I was 3000 due to an allergic reaction after surgery to a monoclonal antibody they were testing in me and that worked very well before surgery but after that we had the big fright ,it seems that since the liver was resected in an 80 % was not capable to metabolize the antibody !.But now my worries are that in case of surgery would they operate with such high levels? Anyway Bilirubin is ok
    which is the most important!.

    other drugs?
    Other meds can effect it too. Some of the acid reflex/gert drugs will do it. It scared the heck out of one of my best friends until she stopped taking whatever (don't remember) the drug was. Her levels were back to normal very quickly.

    Tylenol use to do it and some pills for sleep (diazepam and so)
    I'm having quite a lot of this lately.But remember that aside 5rounds of Folfiri and avastin I just finished six weeks 24 H a day of 5 Fu so l blame more to the disasters of chemo than Tylenol !

    I had elevated levels of alkaline phosphatase that started during chemo too and lasted for months after chemo was over. (I had 12 treatments of Folfox.) My oncologist wasn't too concerned, but ran some tests and didn't find anything. He sent me back to the gastroenterologist about it and I had more tests, a scan, and finally a liver biopsy. The biopsy came back normal. By this time it was about 9 months after the end of chemo, and the last lab work for the gastroenterologist showed that my alkaline phosphatase levels had dropped to 2 points above the normal range. So the conclusion was that it was due to the chemo, and it just took a long time--9 months--to approach normal again.

    It's good to hear that everything is going well for you, and I hope your alkaline phosphatase elevation is corrects itself over time the way mine did!

    My liver enzymes fluctuated
    My liver enzymes fluctuated to some degree while I was on Folfox/Avastin. Alk phos also can be affected by bone issues. I've had bone mets several times and it caused a rise in the alk phos level. When I had radiation to the bone areas, the levels went higher. Also when I was dosed Aredia to stabilized my bones. Probably not news you wanted to hear, but it is one cause of elevated alkaline phos.
