I Lost My Husband Today

The battle is over and the beast thinks it won. No way. It took my husband's body today but it will never take his spirit or mine.

Paul crossed over late this afternoon peacefully at the hospice center. His decline was so rapid it seemed like it was in the blink of an eye. We had such a great Christmas. A good memory.

His request was no sad faces. Be happy for him. He's seeing all those he loved that had gone before him including all his dogs.

He had asked that a memorial fund be set up at our Vet for rescue animals and for people who would have to give up their animals because they couldn't provide needed medical care. We got our first rescue dog yesterday. She is so sweet but so undernourished and needs some other medical care. She was abandoned by renters downtown. We've name her "Downtown Judy Brown." The name of the fund is Pawing It Forward. If anyone is interested in helping these poor animals send me a private message with your e-mail address and I will send you pics of our first rescue and information about Pawing It Forward. It's a wonderful tribute to a great man and it will help us rescue dogs from high kill shelters and give them the medical attention they need so they can be put into foster homes and eventually be put up for adoption.

Thank you for all your prayers and good wishes over these past months. I will still be lurking in the boards and posting from time to time to give support to all my new friends.

I am so sorry that Paul lost his battle but thankful that he did not suffer and that he had his loving family with him.

Pawing It Forward is such a wonderful way to keep his memory and spirit alive. I pray it does well and saves many animals, I also pray for peace for you and your family.

    Tribute
What a wonderful tribute for your husband, who must have been a great man - loving dogs and animals and caring. I will be interested in Pawing it Forward (I will have to figure out how to email you!) So sorry to hear your news. I love that he wanted you to remember him with smiles and stay positive. Good for you for honoring him in such a fine way.

I am saddened by the news; Paul did not fear death because he knew his savior would be waiting for him. How great it is when a person connection to his maker is so that there is no fear in the crossover between this world and heaven

I the mist of your lost you still find a way to help others in need. May God continue to be with you and bless you until you and Paul can be together again in his paradise home in heaven.

God bless and keep you in his care

    You are in my prayers....
Skipper, I honestly don't even know what to say, other than I am in awe of both you and your husband's strength. I am so thankful that you are at peace, and hope you remain that way until you are able to join Paul.

I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to post your thoughtful reply on my own prayer request. I am so grateful that you took the time during a very difficult day to help me feel better about the path that lies ahead of me. Everybody on this site is so lucky to have you around.

If there is anything I can do to help with the fund you have set up, please don't hesitate to ask.

Lots of hugs coming your way,

    Nicole

    So Sorry
    Skipper:

I'm so sorry about Paul and as I've said before I truly know what you are feeling, are going to feel and I won't lie it's hard. I don't think I'll ever not miss Charlie, but I do rejoice in knowing he is cancer free. When we found out how bad his cancer was when it returned; I told him I knew the answer to this question, but "Do you have any qualms or questions about where you're headed?" He looked at me, and said, "Not at all, I'll be waiting for you!" He too, went peacefully. He was in the hospital not at hospice, but didn't struggle at all when they were working with him. An aunt of his told me that is was God's mercy that he went peacefully. And you're so right; this beast THINK's it's won; but it hasn't; we may have lost our battles, but we're not going to lose the ware!

We too had a great Christmas his last with me in 2009. Please send me a private message about the fund. Being a dog lover myself (remember I have 3, 2 shelties and a dachshund and the daschund Sammy is a rescue dog)I would be interested in knowing more and making a contribution in Paul's and Charlie's memory. Take care my friend, you will get through it, and it is hard. But I look at the fact that is so hard as a tribute to the love and life we shared. You will be in my prayers. God Bless.
