Fingerprints!

Most of you oldies know I voluteer at a number of different places. I recently decided to formally volunteer with another group of youth and that called for an FBI fingerprinting. Went today to have that done and kept being rejected because I've lost most of my fingerprints. We finally were able to get them up to an 80% and pass me.

I had FOLFOX and had not ever seen any mention of that causing you to lose fingerprints. Just a heads-up for those who might travel overseas or need prints for a job, etc.

    Have a great day!

    Lost Mine
When I first bought this laptop 2 years ago I was not on chemo. It is one that you scan your fingerprint to sign in. Worked great until chemo took my prints and I was no longer able to sign in that way....still no prints. Weird

    interesting
    Hi Diane,

I'd heard of this before. Recently, when we went to Sea World, they check you if you're a pass holder at the gate by having you put your finger over a fingerprint scanner. Mine worked fine apparently. Today while I was having chemo, another woman there who is on Folfox said that she has a really hard time using her Ipod Touchscreen now & that it works fine for everyone else in her family, so she assumes it has something to do with the chemo. Weird! What I find weird, Diane, is that it's been quite a long time since you stopped taking the chemo & that it's been a problem for you all this time. Glad it's coming back!

Back in May of 2009, a man returning to US from Singapore
had difficulty at airport as his fingerprints were gone. That was the first I heard of Xeloda affectig one's fingerprints. Despite the future chemobrain, I've always remembered this as my Tx ,which included Xeloda, was about to begin at that time and I'd hadn't read of this effect but Xeloda DOES cause loss of fingerprints, as I've since seen for myself. It also made my poor handwriting even worse but wit Oxi and radiation, it did shrink my tumor prior to
surgery......Hope everyone else gets positive results......steve

PS:while I've heard of this only with Xeloda, other chemo probably can do this as well, as well as other things we don't yet know about.....

    Bank Heist! LOL
I knew Xeloda caused fingerprint problems but never thought about the 5 FU doing the same. Never had any peeling during chemo and it has been 16 months since chemo ended. Since 5FU is the intravenous form of Xeloda, makes sense.

This was the digital fingerprinting and not the black ink type.

I thought I might have posted about this
    quite a while ago.

I too lost my fingerprints. It was a real trip to get into the narcotic drawer at work and in to our time clock since everything is done via fingerprint. :) They're now just coming back and I can use them again. I too thought of robbers and banks when I had none.

We worked around it, but it was a pain in the keister!!
