i am a 18 year old female and i have a cyst on my right ovary, well ive known about the cyst for about 3 1/2 months now and the doctors said it was nothing, well i had alot of ovary pain and so the doctors prescribed me birth control that i have periods every 3 months to stop it. it stopped for a lil while but now its back and i have been discharging for almost 2 weeks now even though im not supposed to be bleeding til middle january, the discharge is brown with a little blood in it, the 3rd or 4th day i started and it was just a little blood, but then it turned back brown. ive been having horrible lower back pain and some pain on my right side. if you could please tell me whats wrong

    help
I would strongly suggest that you see a gyn (if this is the doctor you are referring to) then get a second opinion. Insist that a transvaginal ultrasound, a pelvic and rectal exam and a CA125 blood test be done. We have to use whatever tools are available to get a qualified diagnosis. Remember you are in charge, it is your body. My prayers and thoughts are with you for a "no problem" result. Stay in touch.

actually a doctor at the ER found the cyst with a ultrasound but he said by the look of it that it was nothing! if i may ask what is a transvaginal ultrasound?is it the inside ultrasound? thanks for the advice cuz cancer has just been on my mind since i found out about the cyst.

    WELCOME TO THE GROUP
I'm sorry we must meet this way, but welcome to a great group of strong, helpful women (and men, too!). Reading your post was like stepping back in time for me. I had those symptoms and more when I was 16 years old (that was 40 years ago). I went from doctor to doctor till I finally found one that would do a laparoscopy for me, which is a minimal procedure under anesthesia, to determine if I had endometriosis (I was always told it was 'in my head'). Sure enough, I did. That started several years of birth control pills, off and on, etc. It didn't really help, and I'm not so sure they know much more today about the disease. I had three children (which they said I could never have), and the endometriosis seemed to subside for the most part.

Ask your doctor about a laparoscopy. Ultrasounds don't show everything, but it's a start. I can't say for sure that it's not something more serious, so try to find a gynecologic oncologist who would be the best one to determine how to approach this. I will tell you that in 2000 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and again in 2006. We're not sure that the endometriosis was a factor - there's different thinking on that. Nonetheless, your situation is definitely worth following up, aggressively. Sometimes it's a long process to find someone who will not dismiss these symptoms as 'female problems'.

I wish you the best and send hugs and prayers to you. Please let us know what you find out. You've come to the right place for lots of shoulders to lean on.

    (((HUGS)))
