My husband and I are going to my parents home for Christmas day. I love this time of year and spending it with my family is always so special. My Mother always has the house decorated so beautifully and their tree is always awesome. It is funny though, they still put up ornaments that my brother and sister and I made for them wayyyyyyyyyyy back when we were just little kids. They aren't much to look at, but, my Mother and Father treasure them more than anything. I always go in and help Mother make Christmas cookies a few days before and we have such a good time. She still makes the best cookies! I can't wait for Christmas day!

I have been busy with a clothing drive in our town for clothes for the homeless shelter. Those poor people need so much and it is just our way of giving back. Everyone has been so generous in donating coats, sweaters, socks, gloves, just everything anyone would need. I don't know how many boxes my poor hubby has hauled to the shelter. Good thing he is a big, strong guy!

We are also going to work in the shelter serving food one night. It is sad to see so many families there and nowhere else to go. But, we treat them all with respect and just try to put a warm meal in their tummies and a smile on their face.

That is what my hubby and I have always believed is such a huge part of the Christmas season. Giving back, and, we are doing what we can.

So, what are you doing for Christmas?

    We're not doing much for
We're not doing much for Christmas. Just going to stay home with Hubby. We are cooking our meal, Turkey or Ham haven't decided yet. I'll take a plate to Mom ( she lives on our property )The best part about not having company is when you get done eating you can take a nap LOL. Really I am just happy to be here I wasn't suppose to be in the beginning. This is the best Christmas EVER.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!!!! Kay

    Jake and I
Jake and I are going to a tree farm on 12/11 and picking out our tree and having them cut it and then bringing it home and decorating it. Jake's dad will be going to California to spend Christmas with Jake's step sister so it will be Jake and I Christmas eve--pizza, movies and jammies(matching ones if we can find some). Then presents in the morning and then to my mothers Christmas late morning for more presents and lunch.

It was his idea about what to do x-mas eve--just the two of us.

    Christmas with family and friends
Family will come to us this year. One of my dearest and oldest friends, also a Survivor, will be joining us for Christmas dinner. Our son, career Navy, will not make it to NY again this year. We will miss him. I will make my famous lasagna with Italian sausage and meatballs
    S. Oh yes, I will also be preparing Cranberry glazed ham. My daughter is in charge of the side dishses this year and the Pecan Pie.
When we return to NY from our extended weekend trip, the apartment and the tree will get decorated. Christmas is my favorite holiday and time of the year.

I'm a little sad about this Christmas.
My younger son lives in New Mexico and is in a serious relationship. He decided to spend the holiday with her family rather than to come home. This is the first year he will miss so I guess I'm lucky but it doesn't feel that way. He said Gretchen (his soon to be fiance) will never come to my house for Christmas because she is close to her family. That means my son will never have another Christmas with me. I just can't get past this and think she is very selfish to think her family and traditions are more important than my son's. I'm hoping that he will stand up to her in future years but I promised myself that I wouldn't put him in the position to choose. His partner should get top priority and I should butt out. I was hoping he would choose a compassionate women rather than a selfish one but it doesn't look like it. Oh well.

    DH and I are
so fortunate to be celebrating Christmas Eve at home with our son, daughter in law, daughter, son in law and 3 grandchildren. Part of our traditional buffet is making mozzarella en carozza (like my dad did before he passed away), stuffed mushrooms, antipasto, chicken rollatini, stringbeans marinara, meatballs, stuffed shells or some other pasta dish, etc...We will be missing my mom who passed away in June. She had lived with us for the past 3 years and absolutely loved Christmas. Christmas day our kids go to their in laws and DH and I recouperate and put the house back together. This year we may put our decorations away since we are going to FL New Years Day for a week.
Sunday Dec. 26 we celebrate at my sister in laws house with my DH's mom, sisters, brothers in law, brother, sister in law, nieces, nephews and now their children and of course our kids and grandchildren.

    Roseann, once Gretchen sees
Roseann, once Gretchen sees the love and closeness shared within your family, I hope she realizes that this is much like her own AND just as important. Then, maybe, just maybe, she will agree to switch off from year to year. I know I sure would!! Don't spend too much time feeling down about this, as we all know life is too short and miracles still do happen!! Sending a (((hug))) your way!!

    Going to Connecticut
I'm heading to Connecticut and will be spending Christmas with my son, the most wonderful-daughter-in-law-in-the world, and 2 adorable grandsons. I can't wait. I only see them twice a year ... and the boys seem to grow sooooo much between my visits. Christmas is always great fun. My grandsons are 10 and 3 and for the past 4-5 years the oldest boy and I have made it a tradition to make Christmas Pretzels ... but this year we're going to include the 3 year old. I'm sure many of you know about these but ... just in case:

Place the small pretzel shaped pretzels on a cookie sheet ... flat ... not over-lapping then on top of each one place a Hershey chocolate kiss. Put in oven at about 200 degrees for just a few minutes until kiss is soft but not totally melted. Take out of oven and place a red/green M&M on top of the chocolate kiss ... let sit until chocolate sets up ... and whammy ... a yummy holiday treat! We make tons and they are really gobbled up. My grandson thinks he does all the "work" but while he's putting the pretzels on the cookie sheet I'm madly unwrapping the Hershey kisses trying to keep up with him. Then of course ... I do the oven part. Can't wait to include the 3 year old this year!

    Holiday hugs to all!

    Romantic Christmas for us!
For the first time ever, my husband and I will spend Christmas alone. My son lives in California and works the day before and the day after. My daughter and grandson live in Gemany. We will drive up north Christmas eve and will drive back down on Christmas day. I plan to pack a Christmas picnic for us to sit by the fire and enjoy. Haven't come up with any ideas as to what that will be other than a bottle of wine and maybe some marshmallows for the fire. LOL.

I am sorry Roseann. I would think that Gretchen would consider his feelings and that they would spend some Christmas's with you too. Alternate every other year if necessary.

Could he come see you before or after Christmas? Have a delayed celebration together?

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

    staying home
Being a military family, we usually stay home and that's exactly what we are doing again this year. I have three girls in college (2 more kids still at home) and they will be home for Christmas break. Christmas day we spend most of the day in our pajamas watching movies, playing games, etc.. Couldn't think of a better way to spend the day.

    Happy Holidays!

    Those pretzels sound

    Teena
Those pretzels sound wonderful. I think I will do them with my 5 year old grandson and maybe 2 year old granddaughter. They sound easy and yummy. When do you head off to Connecticut? Being with family is so much fun.
Den and I will be bachelors this year. Denise and Kyle are taking the kids to San Diego to be with his family. His grandma is stage IV lung cancer and they want to be there in case this is her last Christmas. And all of his other grandparents and parents live there. They were here last year and they also alternate but even if it had been "our turn" I would have insisted they go down there. So we will have a small quiet dinner and then celebrate Christmas with them after they return.
Roseann, it sounds like this is a new relationship and I think that over time they will work out a way to have Christmas' at each mom by alternating. Or as someone else suggested perhaps you will go to the in laws as well. I never had an in law so that was never a problem and my daughter and her spouse alternate between their families. For the next time down in San Diego, I think we will be joining them. Just wasn't up to it this year. We are always invited to join them. It takes time to establish these traditions and your son is obviously so in love that he is not looking beyond that and your future daughter in law doesn't know you yet so she is thinking only of her family. Hopefully that will change. Try not to fret it will work out I am sure.
It's nice to hear all the plans and share this bit of our lives.
I hope everyone has a blessed and safe holiday and celebrates the season according to their beliefs. May the joy of the season last throughout the new year and beyond.

    Christmas
Again this year, just my brother, mother and myself (and of course, little Miss Sadiecat). The day after we go down to the Ocean to spend the week and New Years. We still haven't decided if we are getting each other 1 present or 10 dollar store ones, but either way will be nice.

is my sister's bday (she's 58). On the 12th my hubby & I go to a tree farm and cut down our tree. (I'm still waiting for my ornament :-)) On the 13th I celebrate with 11 woman friends (my Bunko group). We exchange gifts after eating fabulous food we all brought. Christmas Eve we go to my daughter's house and help in building a gingerbread house with sil and 2 granddaughters. On Christmas day we are going to my mom's where my daughter and 2 sisters will be with spouses and grown children. The day after Christmas my son & his family are coming to CT and then all of us go to my sister-in-law's for my hubby's side of the family. There are probably more than 40 of us. Considering I have my last chemo next Tuesday I'll be lucky to stay awake for everything. It's a very exciting time of the year especially with 6 young grandchildren. I miss going to midnight mass and some day will attend again. I love listening to choirs and caroles :-)
