First Mom then Dad

First Mom fell a week ago Sunday and when they exrayed her they found Bone Mets on two of her ribs. Then Daddy collasped on her Thursday and had to be life flight to the hospital.
We found out he had a TIA and that the arteries in his neck were blocked 95 and 90%. He has had the artery on the left side cleaned and in a couple of weeks they will need to go in and do the right side. He is out of the hospital but had to come home with a cath since he couldn't pee. We go today to see the uroligist.
Bouncing over to the hospital took its toll on me. Took him home on Monday and then Tuesday I stayed in bed.

    I am so sorry to hear about your mom and dad. What a double whammy for you. Is there anyone who can go with you to these appointments so that it is not falling just on you? Please take care of yourself as well. Sounds like they will be needing you but they need you strong and well also so do what you can to get some assistance with this. My prayers are with all of you.

    I am so sorry that so much is happening so quickly to your family. Speak to Mom and Dad's docs and find out if they are eligible for any assistance in the home such as a homemaker or visiting nurse services (transport services to and from appointments might be helpful too). Both of them are going to require long term treatment and support. You have your hands full and need to take care of yourself.

    Thanks everyone. Mom and Dad are doing good. I do have a sister that can help some. I know I have to take care of myself in order to care of them.

    to hear that this is all happening at once. You need to be sure and take care of yourself and try not to overdo. Hopefully your sister will be able to help enough so you don't wear yourself out. You are in my thoughts.

    A 72-year old friend said it all:
    Growing old is not for wimps!!!

    I went and had my carotid arteries checked a few years ago...I have high cholesterol. And, many of my friend's hubbies are on a first-name basis with their urologist...lol!

    I'm sorry to hear about all of your troubles..sigh...you DO have a full plate!

    But you are lucky to have a supportive sis...I am fairly on my own...

    Sister is useless
    Had to run down thursday as Dad was still not able to pee. Did the in and out cath and relieved his bladder. Finally he starting peeing some. Went home this morning and then found out that he stopped peeing again and mom had to take him to the ER and have the cath put back in. I thought sister was coming down today but no she is at her daughters babsysitting plans on going home tomorrow and taking her grand daughter with her. Yet she complains to me that Mom is not able to take care of Dad with her back hurting! And is fixated on they shouldn't be going up and down the basement steps. The tv room is down there as well as the laundry room. Thinks me and my husband should go down there and move the tv, washer, and dryer up stairs even tho Mom doesn't want that.

    Aw, I know THAT conflict WELL!!!! sigh....
    When my sis started making decisions counter to mine, I just told her flat out "If you want to disrupt my flow, fine, no problem. But you need to come and do it. And, yes, it IS I will take my ball and go home!...and YOU will be left with mom's care!!!!". Shut her up very quickly...

    One thought...suggest that she buy a smaller TV, have it shipped to Mom and Dad's...at HER expense!!! As far as laundry...there are senior care giving businesses that can come in a do this...on an hourly basis....I've become the expert on this stuff with my mom being so bad...

    I'm sorry, I thought you had help...battling siblings just makes it harder...I'm sending my hugs...
