Up date on Me

Just came back from Doc, everything is the unchanged, I found out today, that the First Doctor and Nose and Throat specialist, who did the implant last September of 2009, trimmed my l/s Larnyx, which my voice is now crippled, I asked the Doc today why my tumor wasn't noted after the 5 tests he did, before he carved into me, He wouldn't answer my question, I am pissed, this quack took my voice and life, the cancer doctor wants me to let it go, My Breathing has a smaller hole because of this swelling and the swelling going down due to radiation, so I was told today if I caught a cold with alot of discharge, I could be facing a return back to the hospital, but was also told he would trim the l/s larnyx more for airway, downside, lose my voice completely, and trach back in for sometime...So I have half a airway, which i get tired from lack of Oxygen, and any sinus problems interfere with the problem, Colds are the void, any feed back, is there someone out there with a l'/s parylzed larnyx I could talk too, Thanks, give me your email, or I'll give you mine. I haven't anything go right with, my cancer, home life or job, 2010 was a bad year for me. Dennis, Cancer effects everything

    Dennis I'm so sorry to hear of all your trouble. I do so wish there was something I could say or do to make things easier for you. Here's praying that 2011 will be a banner year for you!

    Bad year
    Hi Dennis, I don't have your condition, but I understand when you talk about a bad year. My life changed in all aspects from the cancer treatment in the last year. Life, job, family, taste, etc., all went varying degrees South. I think I can recite most TV commercials by heart, probably the most telling symptom. I don't share your problem, but I do know how you feel. I'm hoping with you that things improve this year. On a non-related note, I'm 62, but I remember my dad who is long gone, and you are a dead ringer for him.

    Hi Dennis
    I wish I could help out more but distance is a major factor. I am sorry you had to go through so much & even though I am not knowledgable with your treatment & procedure's I can only pray that everything get's so much better for you. I keep telling everyone that 2010 was a hell of a year for me but I now appreciate the fact that I was indeed lucky in comparison to most. I wish you my best & pray that 2011 is a much better year for you.

    Understand part of what you're feeling
    Dennis, I can somewhat understand what you are feeling. I have T3N0M0 SCC Supraglottic of the larynx and my ENT has told me twice that he felt they would have to remove my larynx. It's devestating to think of going through life with no voice but I don't like the alternative either.

    I had been laid off, due to the economy, and was working for a temp service while I was looking for a full time job when I was diagnosed. This meant no health insurance which in turn meant no treatment unless I could get some type of coverage. My husband and I had to survive for 8 months on just his social security until I was covered by Social Security Disability. Filed bankruptcy and lost everything. NO...I didn't lose everything...I am still alive, have a wonderful family and many new friends here on CSN who help me through the worst times. My husband and I feel that we hit rock bottom in 2010 so there is only one way to go in 2011...we are going to pull ourselves up in the new year and enjoy the life that we still have together. I know my health problems are not the same as yours but I want you to know that you are not alone.

    I'm sorry to hear about your ongoing health problems and wish there was something I could do to help you other than just trying to encourage you to not give up. As Kent Cass always says, BELIEVE!! Don't give up the fight, keep believing because miracles do happen and many of us here are proof of that.

    The good thing is 2011 is right around the corner.

    I have only one vocal cord, they do not know but suspect that the one that is dead is from radiation damage long term. It has been out for 7 plus year. because of this when i talk i loose alot of air fast, that leads to pausing as I talk and catching up to get more air in my lungs.

    I also have a trach for the last 29 months. I was given it when they went in to biopsy my pharynx area where they thought my cancer had come back. What they found was necrosis and alot of damage to air way when they went in. This lead to adding the trach with permission and 6 month treatments plus some added recovery. The trach is no fun, over time it has become part of my many new normal changes of life. The trach does give me more air to my lungs, I can feel it. The day after I got it I could tell and I told the doctor the day after receiving and he was not surprised at all.

    The doctors have added oxygen when I sleep only and that has helped my hemoglobin levels and made another good change.

    Hey Dennis
    I am so sorry for the problems you have now and ahead of you. I don't have a solution as my issues are around eating and saliva, but I hear your pain and want you to know you are in my prayers to win this battle.
    Keep walking and fighting and come here when you need a push.....

    Sorry to hear your latest news. It had seemed like things were finally starting to go your way a little before this. I mean, you did make some progress, but it just seems like this news is a fresh kick in the gut. Sorry you have to keep dealing with "extras". Hoping you go through a bigger upswing in the near future.

    My prayers and thought are always with you me friend as we seem to all be in the same boat at time; you with the voice and air way and me with the Jaw problem. Like my doctor said he did not expect me to live this long

    I'm Hoping For all Of us!
    I Have no idea what he will throw out on the table next, what would you guys do,1.) live with speech impetiment, better air wave, with no voice, and no trach,2.) or 3.) trach, breath and struggle with talking, and the cleaning of trach and the looks? I have teh 3 choices after the butch took my larynx out the first time. I wish we could all live closer, Hope you find some comfort at the hospital, and keep us informed threw someone please.     I had and have your choices sort of. I have a trach and one dead vocal cord. I have very week voice, very raspy, and get tired alot when i speak alot. The trach helps me breath beyond what I could have imagined. Does it looks strange, you bet but quality of life is much better. After 30 months now of having it, cleaning inner cannula many times a day is easy. The looks of it are now a part of my revised new normal life. Don't forget we find out who are true friends are when something changes and they continue to hang around.

    Why doing thing, we never know what technology will come up with, what doctors will discover. This way it leaves my options open for a longer time for someone to discover something.

    Dennis be strong and prayers for wisdom going your way.
