Good morning everyone,
Yesterday I went to a second Breast Surgeon regarding my dx of IDC grade 1 Stage 1 (nodes do not look to be involved but have not been biopsied yet.) Estrogen positive, Progesterone positive, Nu negative (not sure if Nu is right term-is it). I am awaitin BRAC results. I thought I was going to use my first surgeon he has great credentials came recommended by the hospital and is the Chief director of oncology. Yesterday's surgeon performed an ultrasound of my lymph nodes and thank God said they are not enlarged. He also ordered an MRI bilateral w/and w/o contrast. I understand this is very uncomfortable. Anyone have an MRI? Another difference is he stated if all tests(BRAC, Mammaprint, MRI) stay good I would be a candidate for partial radiation of the breasts. Twice a day for 5 days a radiation seed would be implanted and removed. Anyone have this down? Any information, comments, concerns would be appreciated. Today I am going for a 3rd opinion. I forgot to mention 1st surgeon is in my insurance network, second is not but I do have a PPO and would have some coverage. Thank you.

    Had radiation-but not the seed
I had MRI prior to my sugery (then radiation). I remember having MRI but nothing bad to be honest with you! TO me the worst thing was the pre op procedure (wire locater while awake). I did have radiation for 8 wks daily-with very little burning or irratation-I WAS very lucky! I also had Lymph nodes removed but all OK!

with all YOUR opinions-I HOPE you can have an easier choice of what to do! Peace of mind with a bit out of pocket priceless! (PPO)

    Warrior, I had an MRI
Warrior, I had an MRI w/contrast on 2 different occasions. There was no pain or anything like that involved. If you are claustrophobic, your doctor may recommend something to calm you down. I am not, so it wasn't a big deal. I was placed in the machine on my stomach with my arms outstretched over my head. There was a needle placed in my arm for use when the contrast was injected. You must be very still while the scans are being done. The person performing the test is actually talking with you through it and letting you know how long each scan is. I believe mine was a total of about 45 minutes.

Good luck to you as you make your decisions regarding treatment. From your story above it sounds like your cancer was caught early and that is very good. Continue to post and let us know how you are doing and also your treatment plan. We'll be with you throughout your treatments. Take care.

I had a MRI with contrast
I had a MRI with contrast before my lumpectomy to make sure that there was no more cancer anywhere. It was painless, but, took about 45 minutes. I was on my stomach with my boobs hanging through a form that they had, as that was what the MRI was for, looking at both breasts. The techs talked to me to make the time go faster and to tell me what was going on. They also had earphones on me with music playing which helped too.

    Good luck to you!

Just a warning with a MRI if
Just a warning with a MRI if you can take something to help with nerves. The MRI itself doesn't hurt but its the noise that got to me!! It sounded like someone was screaming to me the word T-H-A-T over and over and really really fast. The noise told my brain to be afraid, and my heart was racing. I too am not claustrophobic but the next time I have a MRI, I am going to ask for something to calm me down!!
