My Mothers B-Day is Halloween so my family always gets together at her house and have dinner and all of our children and Grandchildren go trick or treating.
I love this time of year in Colorado the leaves russling under your feet winter in the air!
The comforting foods that come with the season that fills the house with that wonderful aroma of home cooking and the love that goes in the food.
I've always lived here, what do you do where you live, and what type of food do you eat when its winter time?
Karie....Just wanted to lighten things up : )....This year I will be making Gumbo for the family.

    No real plans. This weekend
No real plans. This weekend I'm going to a Women's Retreat and we have to have a costume. I still don't have one figured out yet as I'm not sure rather or not we'll have to be able to sit down in it. Right now - I leaning to being a pink ghost with pink ribbons on it or being a pink witch (Hubby and Son say be the witch as that's in 'character' except it should be black LOL). Anybody's thoughts?

Wow, I am baking a turkey
Wow, I am baking a turkey this week just to make gumbo with the leftovers. It must be gumbo time of year ;-)

As to Halloween, Danny has trick or treat duty as I am working with my babies.

    Here in Texas
we anticipate that real cold snap (which for us would be in the 40's-50's. So far...zippo. However, when it does come, I immediately make a huge pot of chicken soup with roasted chicken and veggies :P Can't wait.

Have fun! Gumbo sounds so good!

hoping to see my family this halloween
last year i was on my way up there and i got really sick and turned around and went home. i have my rads dry run on thursday afternoon then plan to head north to green bay where my mom and my youngest brother live in side by side duplexes. my brother's younger daughter and her family are currently living with him - so i get to see them too. my brother has invited his other daughter and her family to come over for dinner on halloween - so i get to see them too! it will be my first drive that far since my mastectomy, so i hope i can do it! i start rads on monday, so i know i won't be able to make the roadtrip once i begin that step of the journey.

oh by the way, i will have yummy home-baked,world-renowned chocolate chip cookies in my basket, because i will be little red riding hood!!!

    It must indeed be Gumbo
It must indeed be Gumbo season! On Saturday the 30th, Reggie and I are going to a "Feast of All Saints" dinner at one of our favorite restaurant/wineries in town. The owner is Cajun, and aside from live jazz music, the main course at the dinner is gumbo!

We have The Halloween House~ smoke machine, scary music, cob webs spiders etc etc~ so we stay at home to hand out the goodies to the kidlets who come by.

Dressing in costume is optional for the Feast on the 30th...I am not having any good ideas, so unless I think of something brilliant and available in the next few days, I will just be plain old me! LOL

We are going with some friends to the scary old Haunted House. I told my husband that he might want to wear gloves as I get really scared. LOL

We only go after we hand out all of the candy to the trick or treaters. It is always so much fun to see the little ones all dressed up.

    Love Halloween!

    Get some smartie candies
Get some smartie candies (those little rolls) and pin them all over your pants and be a smartie pants. Take an empty box of cereal and take a plastic knife, coat it with red paint or color it with a red marker and have it sticking out of the box and you can be a serial killer. Okay those are my main easy ones.
Denise and Kyle have their Victorian house all tricked out with giant spiders and webs and a full size skeleton dressed in a bridal gown with veil. Her face is painted like the Day of Dead skulls. There are pumpkins ghosts, rats, bats, a vulture and an owl and other spooky stuff. The inside is decorated as well. Looks very good. Denise made us all costumes. I am the snow queen and will be dressed in blues with frosty glitter and glitter snow flakes and a chiffon cape with fur trim and crown that looks like ice with snow flakes on it. Although Den may not be up to wearing his, it is a knightly king with a cape and crown. Jazzton will be a knight complete with sword and a shield that has his trick or treat bag attached to the back. Jo is going to be Belle and her dress is a vision and she will have the cutest little tiara. Kyle is going to be the #1 zombie dad, all creeped out and carrying his baby in his bjorn carrier. The baby will have a head full of gummy worms that he can pull them out and eat them to gross out one and all. And Denise is going to be Glinda and her costume is absolutely stunning. She will outGlinda Glinda. We are all, except Den, going on Friday evening to Jazzton's Halloween night at school for a play, cakewalk, games and fun. Saturday, Jazzton is going to a friend's Halloween birthday party. On the afternoon of Halloween, we will go to the little local mall for the kids to safely trick or treat. Later the kids will go with mama and papa to the neighbors that they know on their block. Den and I will be on candy duty until they return. Denise was originally going to have a big party but with Den's surgery they decided to postpone it until next year. Denise birthday is close to Halloween so we always had a Halloween themed party and it is one of her and my favorite holidays. Hope everyone has a spooky fun time.

    We're taking our girls trick
We're taking our girls trick or treating through our neighborhood. Lia (the baby) will be a bumble bee and Camryn (9 yrs) is going as a big baby - zip up 1 footed pajamas, bonnet, bib and all! I'm so glad she loves the costume aspect of halloween and isn't wanting to dress up in the very mature looking costumes they have out for young girls. Her best costume ever was 2 years ago when she dressed up as Slash - the curly haired guitarist from Guns n Roses - best ever! Our neighborhood is pretty close-knit - we live out in the county, it's not quite "country", but not a subdivision either. We just take them down our street & the street behind us & they get enough candy to last me through a year's worth of pms. Hopefully the weather will be decent here. And with the colder weather here I so love cooking up some of my chili. I also have a swiss steak meal that was my favorite meal mom made when i was a kid, that now is my daughter's favorite meal that I make - that is definately a good hearty winter comfort food :)

Seriously ... I am excited ... Last year I could not give
out candies .. as my WBC counts were so low, and my Ono suggested that I go under house lock down for 3 weeks .. Oh those were the days - the last 6 months of 2009 - are still a blurr for me.

Saturday .. Pete and I are going to the USC vs Oregon Ducks game at the Los Angeles Coliseum .. at 5:00 p.m. -- this is such a hot ticket item, as USC is unable to play in any bowl games this year/season - penalities for paying Reggis Bush and his family to play here is LA.... I am taking a thermos of coffee with irish bailey's cream - so I am preparing to stay warm - LOL

Sunday .. Made a special witches hat for myself - I will hand out candies .. dressing my 10 lb 4 legged daughter up as an 'angel' my Bailey Storm, and my little 5 lb Yorkie - Peanut is dressing like a diva/devil .. I hope the neighborhood kids get a kick out of seeing my girls dressed up! My daughter is going to a clean 'party' no alcohol or drugs - while my son and his girlfriend are going to a costume party as Fred Flinstone and Wilma .. we've been working on their costumes for weeks.

Getting back to normal .. 1 day at a time ..

    Too Dark Here
Since there are no street lights out side of main part of town there is no trick or treating here. I guess we will just sit in the dark and eat the treats ourselves, as usual. Oh, it is pumpkin pie season too. Maybe I will try to bake one with as little sugar as possible so hubby can eat some.

    Halloween
Our church does something cool called "Trunk-or-Treating". On Sat. night, the church members decorate the trunks/backs/beds of their cars/vans/trucks for Halloween (prizes are given for the decorations)and all park in the church lot. Then the neighborhood kids, church kids, and preschool kids (we have a large church-sponsored preschool)come to the parking lot and go from "trunk-to-trunk" for treats. Then there is a hayride to the park on the church property with a bonfire, marshmallow roasting, and kids can make scarecrows. I'm really looking forward to it!

I am bummed this am as some evil person stole our 2 Halloween inflatables from our front yard last night.

One was 3 pumpkins and an animated cat that came in and out of the pumpkin. The little ones just loved it--not too scary. The saddest thing for me was that a little special ed boy in my neighborhodd fixated on it and begged my husband every year to hurry and put it up. He could spend hours in front of it saying "cat goes in, cat comes out." And, of course, it is no longer made. I even wrote the company that makes them, but they don't have any either. I looked on ebay, but didn't see it, but I'll keep looking.

The local police were sweet and are trying too.

Just depressing that someone would steal something that made the littlest ones so happy. GRRRRRRR!

We've got our place all decked out for Halloween. Not too scary, I hope, for the little ones. I love seeing all of their costumes and they are always so cute.

There is a party for us adults this weekend. Not sure what to wear though yet. HELP!

Good luck trying to replace your stolen Halloween treasures. Keeping my fingers cross that the local police find the yahoo's who violated your personal property.

I'll be thinking about you, C.C. sipping my hot coffee laced with bailey's on Saturday during the USC vs Oregon ducks' game .. and thinking in the back of my mind .. what the hay is going on with my vikings and staints ...LOL

Thanks Vicki Sam. One of my neighbors gave me a Halloween light for my window that she handpainted herself. How sweet is that! Karma will get the other creeps.

What is going on with the Saints and Vikings? They are looking like college rather than pro. Yikes! I still wouldn't ever boo the Saints this year--not after what they did last year. I'll let em ride on that for at least 5 years ;-)
