Hi ladies, I'm not part of this group I actually have IDC stage IV and post on those sites. However my older sister just had a hysterectomy and was told that she is pre-cancerous. I always thought that you have cancer or you don't. Right now her surgeon is recommending the "We'll check you again in 5 years approach." That just doesn't seem right to me.
Any thoughts, Ideas or suggestions ladies? Any info at this point would be greatfully appreciated?
She's 57 this year and otherwise healthy as a horse.

Peace and Love to you all,
Edie

    get a baseline CA125
    Edie,
As always, you're going to have to trust your sister's doctors on this one, but one thing she should do as soon as the inflammation from surgery subsides (8 weeks?) is get her CA125 measured. It's an ovarian cancer blood marker in which the normal range is 2-25, but some women have an above-average "normal" or baseline. It's one of the few things that can be monitored non-invasively, and could prove to be very useful in the future.

Chances her doctors will do this when they discharge her after follow-up, but she should ask and make sure it gets done.

    HI, EDIE
I totally understand your concerns. See if you sister can get a second opinion from a gynecologic/oncologist. He/she could read the reports and evaluate her. I agree that she should also get a CA125. Maybe they did one before the surgery? My regular gynecologist did a CA125 without me even realizing it, and it's a good thing - that's when he referred me to the oncologist. 'Wait 5 years' is a concern to me, especially if they are calling it 'pre-cancerous'. Anyway, just my thoughts, and I hope it helps.

    Sending good thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for listening and your prompt responses.

    Hi Edie,

Unless your sister's surgeon was a gynecologic oncologist, I STRONGLY recommend a second opinion!

I had abnormal bleeding a year before my diagnosis and my gyn did the D&C but didn't look at my ovaries. I wish he had!
