Just when you think you can see light at the end of the tunnel, another kink gets added. Dale now has a fractured left hip. We are 250 miles away from home and 2 days post surgery. Hope to get to transfer to a rehab facility at home on Monday. We would appreciate prayers. Dale had just completed round 5 of 12 of Folfox. The chemo will just have to wait until he has recuperated from the hip fracture.

Thanks Mary Lou and Dale

So sorry to hear about the hip. I hope the treatment can start back soon. It's not good to have long delays, but some things can't be helped. I will keep him and you in my prayers.

Sorry to hear that. How did that happen? Hope it doesn't set you back too much.

    Sincerely,

    How it happened
We had been told by friends and family all summer long that we needed to give ourselves a break and get out of our house. Dales sister and her hubby were spending the week in Branson, and we decided, after much thought.....to go ahead and go down. We had a great day, the weather was beautiful and we went out on their boat on Taneycomo. When Dale stepped out of the boat onto the dock, he got lightheaded. ( no alcohol involved), and was unable to catch himself. He actually fell into the water and struck the dock on the way down with his left hip. He went under the water, popped right back up and was able to hang on to the dock enough to propel himself to the shoreline via the wire cable. He wasn't able to stand up to get out to the bank and my brother in law had to wade in and drag him to shore. What a nightmare! We called 911 and you all know the rest of the story. It could have been much worse. If he hadn't popped back up, I was going in after him, and then we probably would have both drowned.

The good side of this story is that he is eating real food while in the hospital, and tolerating it well. We also found a new protein juice made by Boost called Breeze and he likes that. I hadn't been able to get more than a couple of bites of real food down him since the surgery. He was living on Ensure Plus.

So we probably shouldn't have gone to Branson, and we sure shouldn't have gone out in the boat, but what is done is done and we have learned our lesson well.

We appreciate prayers and words of encouragement.......hopefully he will heal soon and we can resume our cancer fight!

Sorry to hear that you got hurt too. Dales problem is that he doesn't get the dizziness every time he gets up.....just occasionally, so he has had a false sense of security, thinking that he doesn't need help when he gets up. I think the message has been conveyed loud and clear to him now.

    Double Ouch
That sure sounds like it hurt.

I had a similar situation a long time ago. I was promoted at work and went to Chicago for 2 weeks of training. I stepped out of the shuttle at my hotel, and half my foot caught the curb and caused me to twist and the end result was a broken bone in the top of my foot. I thought it was just a bad sprain, but by lunch time the next day my foot was screaming to get out of my shoe. So I ended up at the hospital and my trip to Chicago and the only site seeing I did was the hotel lobby. Luckily they served drinks in the lobby and they had a nice comfortable sofa right next to the bartender.

Anyway since I couldn't go from bar to bar and was unable to party with the rest of the people, I finished top of the class. It gave me a good story to tell.

Then there was the time I............ nevermind, I've bored you all too much already.

I hope you recover quickly so you can resume your quest to beat this disease. It's hard enough to deal with the chemo and things, to have to put up with the pain and inconvenience oh breaking your hip just stinks. I pray you heal quickly and can get home soon.

    Best wishes,

    Rob
