Delayed effects of Chemo? or Horomonal Issues?

I had a hysterectomy and removal of one ovary in April followed by 8 weeks of Chemo which ended July 7. I am Cancer free and obviously very happy about that! But I'm concerned I may be suffering from some hormonal issues. My hair did not start thining until week 5 of Chemo, it was very minimal but about a month after my last treatment it started to increase and is worse now then ever. I am only 29 and am concerned the chemo may have damaged my remaining ovary. I know there are risks with hormone treatments and fear having to go that route. My dr. assures me it can't be a hormonal issue as I am taking the pill and this is keeping my ovary protected. Does this sound right? He says it's either from the shock to the body that surgery causes or delayed effects of the Chemo. But the Chemo ended 2 months ago and Surgery was almost 4 months ago now. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not experiencing any other symptoms that would point to a hormonal issue, but just wondering if anyone had any insight on this. Thanks!

    Hi Jen
    Hi Jen,

Not sure which symptoms you are talking about...thinning hair can be caused by so many things. I know it took a long time for my mother's hair to grow back and when it did, it was much thinner and curly. She never had a curl in her life before that time. As far as knowing if there has been damage to your ovary as a result of chemo, that's a great question and your gyn/onc should be able to answer that more specifically. Perhaps you should persist in asking until you get an answer that feels more complete to you. I know sometimes I am a little intimidated by the doctors.
