throwing up

Hi again,

I have a question.

My surgery was in Feb 2010 (MIE). I have been getting along well except I still throw up almost every night. Some weeks its only 3-4 time a week. Sometimes I know it is because maybe I over ate, but is this normal? Other than that I am doing good.

I know I have had problems with my stomach not wanting to empty right in the past and I feel full a very long time after eating. I am still on Raglan which helps, I have been taking it since Sept 09 when I found the cancer.

Anyway is the throwing up normal? When will it stop?

    hello Callie and welcome. I was a caregiver for my dad. He passed in March from ec. First I would like to tell you I just love your picture. What an adorable kitten! My thoughts on the throwing up are one of two things. It is because you are eating too much food for your new stomach to handle, or your esophagus is being blocked from scar tissue and you might need a dilation or stent put in to open it up more. After the surgery I have learned that you have to learn how to eat all over again almost. The stomach is somewhat smaller. You need to eat smaller amounts of food more often throughout the day. Only 3 to 4 times a week? Only? That is a lot in my mind. I would also suggest letting your dr. know that this is going on. The dr. always knows most of the answers and will be able to help with advice or some kind of medication. Hoping you start to get some relief of this soon. Keep in touch.

    I would think that throwing up every night after eating post surgery is not typical. I would certainly think it warrants a discussion with your surgeon. There are tests that can be done to evaluate the speed at which your stomach empties and medications in addition to or in place of the Raglan you are currently taking.

    It has taken several months for most of us to get used to our new plumbing after surgery but nightly throwing up seems to be something that should be investigated.

    I will not just assume this is normal and will try to see if overeating is the problem.
    If it continues then I will go see the doctor.

    Thanks for your update. I am hoping today finds you feeling better. Thank you for your condolences. Yes it was hard and is hard every day, but I have a strong faith, that is what got me through dad's journey with cancer and what is getting me through my journey without my dad. My dad is on a totally new suffering and pain free journey! I am looking forward to taking that journey with him some day. Until then, I will keep my feet planted on the ground and keep reaching for all the prayers in the world to help all of you patients and all of us caregivers to fight and win this battle with ec!! Please keep in touch. We have an adorable 3 month old kitten named Gizmo. She keeps us laughing and smiling daily!

    I saw the post and did a reply but thank you for telling me.

    You know I never had much of a family (lost both parents as a child) but the way everyone looks after each other here - it really does feel like family.
