Here I am with egg on my face

All the doc did is talk about my game plan and tell me that they have not given up on me yet. In fact, they already have 3 or 4 different trials they want to try out on me but there is a very long waiting list for some of them. The one they want to start on is xeloda pills and a targeted therapy to compliment it but is a blind study which means some patients will get the targeted therapy and some will get a placebo but we will all get the xeloda. I've already had 5fu and that is basically what the pill is but the clinic doctors say it is more potent than the iv drip and absorbs into the cells better. I don't know how that works but I am just a civilian. Call me the unfrozen caveman cancer patient. The treatment my doc thinks is the most promising has a long waiting list so we cannot do it now. It is called heat shock therapy. I'm not sure exactly how it works (after all I am just an unfrozen caveman cancer patient.) but it is somehow supposed to mess with the heat level in the cancer cells environment and shut them down so they do not progress. He said he has seen a lot of success from that treatment as far as halting progression of disease.
Don't worry, the other Eric never left. I am still a warrior and always will be. I may get off track from time to time but i am still here to give a needed kick in the butt or a shoulder to lean on. It's nice to have this forum and the quality of people on it. Cancer can be a very lonely disease even when you are surrounded by loved ones.
Jen - I will say it once again. I am so impressed with how far you have come. You were a mess when you came here and now you are one of the toughest people on this board. I like that spunky attitude. You need your own Nick name like one that a wrestler or a cage fighter would have.

    Lab rat here too!
    Hi Eric,

Glad that you have a bit more information from the Doc's and that there are other treatments, clinical trials and such to continue fighting this disease. A quick note on the blind studies, if they see those that are getting the treatment rather than the placebo are seeing improved results, those that are not will, in fact, get the real thing as well.

I tried radioimmunotherapy and could only handle one administration of it, which resulted in a stay in the hospital and C diff. Good luck with your treatments and positive thoughts are a good thing.

    Take care,

    Ryan

    Egg on the face!
Eric... there's absolutely nothing wrong with having egg on your face! As a matter of fact, I had two steamed eggs on sourdough toast for breakfast today and the were oh so yummy! I got some egg on my fingers, so not quite on the face, but hey... if the egg tastes good, then eat it :D

I am thrilled that your Doc made a point of telling you that they have not given up on you yet. I think sometimes oncologists and other doctors forget how important it is to the patient to hear from the doctor's mouth that there are options and lots of things to try out. When a doctor tells us that, then we have enough hope that can put us into battle mode. Even if a treatment is considered not so nice, we can take it on because we are Warriors and a little bit of nastiness won't scare us away!

I also agree with what you said to Jen (waving to Jen!). I remember when you came on the board too, Jen and you were terrified. I remember constantly trying to get you to calm down, that there's no need to panic at this stage and you would calm down for about 2 minutes and then you were off on another terror of "But what if..." ;) Since coming back just recently, your posts are amazing!! Is this really the same Jen for about a year or so ago??? You go, girl!! It looks good on you... and with that attitude, you are going to whip this monster into shape :)

    Hugggggs,

    Cheryl

    Good!
Way to go, Eric! I'm so glad the doctors agree with all of us that they couldn't possibly give up on you! I hope you will be able to get into the trial the doctor thinks is the very best.

Glad the eggs are over easy and not scrambled.
Cancer treatments are so easy, even a caveman can do them.
Now grab your club and whack those cancer cells!

    Yes, Brooks.
They took me off my other treatment because it was too hard on me and I feel better already. The doc also put me on some good drugs. I don't know what I am going to do if I make it out of this alive because I am going to be a traumatized drug addict. I guess I'll have to go to celebrity rehab. Oh yeah. I forget. I am not a celebrity. I'm a celebrity in my own mind. I guess all those are issues well have to address while I am there.

    Eggcellent news
    Eric,
Such great news to hear. Here's hoping all the new trials you may get into do the trick, my vote is for the first one to work. It's great the Onc's are offering hope and options. Stay positive and I will be saying a prayer for you.

    Hi Eric,it's good to know
Hi Eric,it's good to know both you and your doctor have a game plan. The promising treatment sounds like Chinese tradiational medical method which is called"ice and fire shower".There was a successful story about a Hongkong famous business man.He had lymphoma, after all the treamtment he could have,he started to follow this method(not exactly as I describe, but just like this):stay in a very cold swimming pool with ice for a certain amount of time first, then take a hot shower or maybe a steam shower second(I think there is a require about the temperature and the time).Repeat this for a couple of round or maybe more.Anyway,he was diagnosed at the beginning of his 60,he passed away at age of 84.

I wish you the best.Good luck with the following treatment.

    Hey Eggy

So glad they are outlining the options for you -- yea! Great.

I can't remember if you have been on Xeloda before. I'm on it now (in a cocktail -- xeliri + Avastin) but I've also been on xeloda alone as maintenance chemo. It ain't bad -- others on this board have experience too.

Celebrity rehab sounds kinda appealing right about now......do I have to have an addiction? (don't worry - I have plenty).
