Hi All,
Chris had a CT in June that they said look good other than a mass like thickening in his abdomn.. But for the last 2 weeks, there is SOOO much blood in his stool everytime. I dont see how it could have retuned that fast but would a colonoscopy show anything diff than the CT? We hate to over test but this is really bothering him... Thanks everyone

Loves,
Mel

    Not sure
I'm not sure what to say. I'm no expert, but I wonder about that mass like thickening in the abdomen. Why didn't they explore that further when it was found?

Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I will chime in with some answers for you.

    *hugs*

Colonoscopy and CT scans show different things
I know that while I have had CT scans every 6 months, I've also had regular colonoscopies.

In April, they scheduled my colonoscopy, followed 2 weeks later by my CT scan. A different type of CT scan may be used if a colonoscopy can't be done. I know that I was told that I might need it, as I have scarring and had a hernia. My dr who did the colonoscopy wasn't sure he'd be able to get through (he did.) If not, my prep for the Chest/Abdomen/Pelvis CT would have been different, to get another type of view of my bowel.

    Agree
If there is a lot of blood in the stool something is way wrong. I would go to the ER. There are several things that could cause this especially since he has had so much done. I would also make sure I talked to the GI guys not just an onc.

    Please be careful,

    Very different
I was symptomatic for two years with a tumor three CT scans wouldn't show. Even when it was 3cm large, the CT didn't catch it. There are many things only a colonoscopy can find. I agree with eveyrone else, get to the ER ASAP!

He ended up having a colonoscopy and endo on friday.... The dr said upper looked good but there were 2 places that had alot of inflamation so he biopsy them. there was also a small raised bump close to where they re-attached his ostomy so they biopsy that too.. he said that he had alot of bleeding but they think that is coumidin realated.. they are pretty confident that it will just come back as inflamation from path... i sure hope so!!! Do they send things to path because inflammation could be cancer cells? I thought that they could tell just by looking.. I have so much to learn!! Also, It was CRAZY to be able to see the staples that are holding him together after his take down!! I said thats why you hurt, they are poking ya! LOL
