What to expect when rad. and chemo starts for stage one ec
    Hi William66

Thanks for the quick reply. Had trouble swallowing. Scope showed 3 centimeter tumor. Biopsy said cancer. Had ct and pet scans. Pictures look horrible. I am 69 years old and live close to Denver. I relied on family doctor for the referrals. It is a cancer center. North hemotology and oncology.

I had a consultaion with a surgeon who has done many MIE. He said I was a candidate for surgery before chemo but inferred that chemo and rad. first would be the best. The surgery sounds barbaric with lots of post surgical problems. Being afraid of the knife I opted for the chemo first. I had a good friend who only lasted 5 years from ec. He had everything done at Mayo. After talking to his wife and doing some reading the protocol seems to be meds first.

When the oncologist said "light chemo", he was trying to give me a comparison to some of the massive doses some tumors require.

The meds will be carboplatin, taxol and alosi for nausea.

    In our prayers
Jeepers, b4 you go ahead w/ this surgery please get another opinion!! My dad had a tumor double your size removed laprosopically in June. He had it done in Pittsburgh PA (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) by Dr. Luketich. From what I understand, he trains many surgeons around the country. Hopefully one will be located near you. He was operated on 6/14 was in the hospital for 1 week. He was up and walking w/in 3 days. He will begin chemo next week and will have 4 rounds. I hope that you are able to get to a center that can do the minimally invasive surgery. It will make a world of difference in your recovery.

Our family realizes that ec is a very serious diagnosis, but with lots of prayers and the right treatment we are hoping that my dad will be around for many years to come! Like all the others on this board, you will be in our prayers.
