Angelina Jolie, where are you?

edited March 2014 in Ovarian Cancer #1
I read in this morning's Parade magazine that Angelina Jolie's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of Ovarian Cancer at age 56. The superstar was very close to her mom, so I am a bit dismayed that she has not lent the weight of her fame to raising money and awareness for this terrible disease.

I have read, of course, of Jolie's many philanthropical works, which makes me doubly curious. Her mom fought the good fight for seven years.

Unfortunately most these women were elderly when they died. I believe if younger, famous women died of this disease it MIGHT get more attention. It also shows, in my humble opinion, that you cannot buy a cure. I am referring to all those costly alternative treatments that most of us cannot afford but desperation may have us look into.

    younger women?
Which makes me wonder, are more younger women being affected or do younger women tend to turn to technology? It seems to me that most of the women I read about on the boards tend to be young.

    Just curious.

    Young vs. Older
I know in my mother's case, she's just not comfortable with sharing on-line....actually she doesn't like sharing feelings in general. She comes from a generation that strapped up their boot straps and didn't complain; much less less doing that over the internet with total strangers. I think this format is more natural for younger people. If more younger people are getting this disease, maybe researchers will do more. It's despicable the treatment and lack of screening. Notice that the men have their prostate cancer down....no way if men had ovaries this would be the case. I think women should have a yearly ultrasound. Make it as standard as a mammogram. My God, I had to have my ovaries out "just to be sure". That's crazy. I wish I knew how or where to go to spread this information, but I can't figure that out either.

    Yes it is curious that
Yes it is curious that Angelina Jolie hasn't been more active
in this fight against Ovarian Cancer.

Could it still be a painful episode she isn't ready to tackle yet?

It does seem since her mothers' passing, she then began feverishly putting her all into
    other philanthropic endeavors.

But her presence would definitely bring attention to the OVCA fight.

When I googled Pierce Brosnan anwsers.com stated she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 1987 and died in 1991.

    also noted
I also noted since her mother's passing she had 3 biological kids that she breastfed. All of which is supposed to lower your risk of ovarian cancer. But of course, I had 3 children and breastfed all 3 well over one year each.

A high profile star like her could definately put a HUGE spotlight on ovca. Maybe we could all appeal to her to support our cause. Look at the girl from Regis and Kelly. She supports ovca because she had a relative who died from ovca. Jolie is a megastar who could definately help our cause.

We forgot Gilda Radner sp? Ratner? I know they have a 'Gilda's house' support group in NYC. Also, Britney Spears' aunt died of OVCA. Not sure when or how old she was. I would guess she was in her 50s judging by her sisters age.

    Just a thought Carlene,
Just a thought Carlene, maybe Angelina is too upset at the moment? I often find people are able to do good deeds and charity work when they have no involvement personally or emotionally. This could well be the case with Angelina? She is too upset at the moment to become active?
