    Florida!
Assuming you want to stay in the country, Florida is typically warm and mild throughout the winter months.

Internet will allow you to find out what's going on in each city so you'll be able to visit the areas of interest to you!

Have fun planning...January will be here before you know it.

    Blessings and hugs to you,

    Syl

Yes, Florida is a good choice,
We celebrate our wedding anniversary in January so we often spend a few days away in a warmer climate. We have particularly enjoyed Florida, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Virginia. Virginia is only a bit warmer than we are in NYC but they don't have the snow fall that we usually get by the end of January making it an ideal place for us. Where ever you decide hope you enjoy the planning as much as the taking of the trip.

    Hmmmmmm
January 2010 Florida west coast had temps in the 20's for weeks on end........was anything but warm. My family had frozen pipes in house, etc. I was in Mexico Tulum area and was into the 50's there! So, I tood was cold in places that do not have heat and are cement only........had to borrow hoodies from friends there! I know, that was all unusual....and we will all hope for a more normal winter this year!

    Southern California?
We get more 'imports' during January because of the typical blue skies for the Rose Parade in Pasadena...Palm Springs is beautiful, if you like desert landscape....

It IS nice, most of the time. The exception being this last year...it rained like stink!

Arizona is also nice in January, altho take a sweater...

Hawaii is always good for warm weather...well, 75-80...

MUST you stay in the US? There are many places south of the equator that are in Summer during January (Australia, New Zealand, just to name two).

    thanks for your ideas. We
thanks for your ideas. We are time limited to a week. My husband and I are a bit at odds, he likes to lay around, I like to do things in between laying around. We are learning slowly about empty nesting, as my youngest will be a junior in HS. After this diagnosis not as willing to put my needs/wants aside. Should be interesting. LOL

Are you on the West coast? I can't remember...
If so, I have something that may appeal to both of you...

I already mentioned Hawaii. But, even better, NCL has a cruise of the islands....7 days!!! Fly into and out of Honolulu...the ship visits the islands, and moves at night, so HE can veg, YOU can SHOP (or whatever). I took this cruise with my daughters, and we had the excursions desk arrange a rental car at each port, instead of the excursions (WAY too costly for 3 of us!!!). It was GREAT.

Also, my beau and I took the Carnival Splendor (a new ship...huge) 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise...from Long Beach...balcony for the price of an inside cabin...we spent most of our time in the cabin, enjoying the views from our balcony. We spent a little time in each port, but always returned to the ship well before departure...we liked our cabin so much! It was a GREAT veg!!! It was November, and the weather was nice and warm!!!

I like cruising because of just what you shared...you each have choices as to what you want to do....

    Jamica
My 25th wedding anniversary was 1-5-2010. I booked a 7 night trip to a sandals resort in jamica. All inclusive with spa and golf, including air fare for $1,200. Total. Private pool with the room And a personal butler on the beach. Great surprise for husband.Well my Daughter called the night I gave the travel agent a non-refundable deposit saying she was pregnant, due the end of January. Called travel agent at 645 that morning to stop her from depositing the check. So, we didn't make it, but I still look at the brochers.

With that being said any advice on how to tell my boss thanks for the time off for surgery and healing (3weeks without pay). I will be back for about a month then want a week off, paid vacation, to go to the beach with my husband while he goes to a conference. Any advice. Very small office with very few employees? Help really need this.

I've done a lot of the warm

I've done a lot of the warm weather things mentioned (FL, Southern CA, Arizona, Australia (wonderful if you had more time), Virgin Islands, including lots of sailing vacations) and it is quite difficult if you and your husband have different ideas about what is a true vacation. One thing I haven't done, since my husband isn't at all interested, is a cruise, but I'd love to take one sometime. It does seem to give you a chance to each do your own thing. So, that would be my vote.

Joyce, my beau was the same...
So I made sure that our first cruise, to Alaska, was filled with plenty of things HE liked...mainly eye candy...all of those glaciers!!!!

But he is now hooked! After Alaska, we did the Mexican Riviera. Then just recently The Mediterranean, starting in Barcelona. He does computers, I do Bingo! He listens to jazz, I learned to salsa...we always met back up and ate all meals together, and of course shore visits were always the 2 of us...

Our next will be either the Baltic Sea, with St. Petersburg; or the Panama canal. You can get SCREAMING deals thru web sites...Travelocity, or CruiseCon...even the lines themselves give discounts...they like to sail with a full ship. Of course, the other perk is that it is all-inclusive (meals, room, entertainment, and your own form of transportation!).

    Kathi, I was mentioning this
Kathi, I was mentioning this thread to my husband, and he said that there were a few places where he would consider a cruise, like Alaska and Hawaii. So, he may be softening a bit! You've done some great exotic ones: not like the typical Bahama and Virgin Islands cruises.

We bought a sailboat in November, so I think that most of our vacations in the near future will be sailing ones. We also plan to live on it most of the year when I retire in two years. In the off-season, maybe we can consider some cruises.

I think I am repeating other people, but after my diagnosis at least for now I prefer stay in US. So you can fly (in compression sleeves) to Phenix or Las Vegas, rent a car to go see places , including Los Angeles and San Diego.

If you like skiing Colorado or Utah could be your destinations!

    A sailboat! Cool!
PLEASE don't tell my beau...lol...HE wants one to travel on the European rivers...ROFL!
I fear the each day would start with 'And then the fight started....'...ROFLMAO!

As far as Hawaii, I REALLY liked the fly there/cruise/fly home thing. NCL is the only one that does this...all the other lines must go to another country as one of their ports, they are not registered in the US like the one NCL ship is....which makes for a longer 'at sea' cruise (I keep these short, my beau does get bored, and he refuses to partake of the 'most hairy back' or 'biggest belly flop' contests!!!!).

    HAWAII
Always warm. Could be rainy, but we went in February this year after receiving my diagnosis and had a great time. If you go to Maui and like watching whales, the humpback whales are calving there between Dec. and April. It was incredible to see whales everywhere.

I completely agree with going out and living your life and not putting things on hold. This year we are thinking Europe for spring break!

I'm jealous just thinking about somewhere warm in January. Michigan is so cold that time of year!
