Everything seemed to be going very well, Robert was bumped up to a clear liquid diet and possibly puddings tomorrow. He was supposed to be going home tomorrow but doesn't look like that's the case. The PA came in today and noticed Robert looking a little yellow so they drew his blood and found he is jaundice. They are doing an ultrasound of the liver tonight to make sure the liver is ok. Other than that he is progressing very very well now. He is up walking alot with not as much pain, breathing better, and getting up and around in general. He seems to be in much better sprits now also.

Has anyone else had juandice? What might it be caused from?

    no experience but will pray
    Hi,
Everything else sounds so good, will pray that the jaundice clears. Don't have any advice about it and have not heard anyone here talk about it. I am sure someone knows something and will be able to advise you. Lets hope the drs can clear it and send Robert home. It is so good he is in less pain and walking so good. It is good to see the drs are moving on it right away. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care,

    Everything looks good
Ultrasound of his liver and gullbladder came back good, blood levels are going down. They are keeping him an extra day just to be sure all is ok. He even got real food today...beef chop suey and cream of tomatoe soup (yuck) but I guess it tasted really good to him after not eating for a week! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, i'll be happy to have him home tomorrow :)

Good luck when you get home.
Good luck when you get home. Hopefully you will have some home health care workers checking on him after discharge. If you have requested this yet see if your doctor will order some help at home upon discharge.

I know it gave my mom great comfort to know a medical professional was checking up on dad.

    best,

    Is that common that they
Is that common that they have home health care afterwards? The help would be nice and somebody checking in on him, but not so sure Robert would like it...while in the hospital he would on let me bathe him....very stubborn lol!

I think it depends on your
I think it depends on your insurance in part and if you ask the doctor for the help and follow up care. I know that after surgery it can be really taxing on the patient to have to get in a car and ride to the doctor and wait etc. etc. while a quick check up by a home health care nurse can take care of that. If you have a hospital social worker, or coordinator I would ask and see what is available. Unfortunately if you don't ask they don't offer even if it is available many times. Also see if there is any follow up therapy (exercise and occupational) available to him to help him regain strength and stamina and keep his lung function up.

As for Rob, tell him it is pampering and saving the time and trouble of travel time to and from the doctor's office. Stubborn I understand :) Good luck.

my home care put in discharge orders
    Hi,
I had a couple of weeks of home health care because of the j tube staying in and also for post op care. My drs ordered it and everything was arranged before I went home. My nurse was wonderful, I had home care when I was given the NG tube before surgery so I had the same nurse and she was in contact with the drs at the cancer center. She did vitals and helped a lot with the post op questions and j tube problems. It was great and helped ease my husbands anxiety with home care. Hope Rob can have it. Our insurance paid most of the costs. take care,
