Losing my job! :o(

Talk about mixed feelings! Just found out I will have less the 60 days at my job. Business being sold. So far I was so lucky to still have a job with a steady paycheck while going thru fighting BC, chemo, radiation. Many days, it ws so hard to get up and come to work, I had to physically force myself to get up. But in a way, i felt like it helped in my recovery. I dont know how to feel about this.

    So sorry pinkpower! With the way things are anymore in this world, so many have and are losing their jobs just like you. I wish this didn't have to happen. I am thankful that it did help you thru your recovery. Can you get unemployment while you continue to look for another job? Or, do you think you may not work anymore?

    Thanks Sue... I'm sure i will be able to get unemployment, but as most of us know, it's a fraction of what you made, and well, the bills will still be the same. I dont think I'll have much of a choice but to take a long vacation from work. I'm still getting chemo Herceptin every 3wks. Who's going to hire me with that and all the doctor appt, and constant scans and blood work I go thru. Thanks for hugs.

    Keep a Positive Attitude
    It sounds like you do have a positive attitude. That has really helped me through things. However, losing a job is major. Good luck to you and I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers. Hugs, Jean

    Why do things like that have to happen when you've already got so much to deal with? Where are you in your treatments? Do you live in a bigger city where there may be job possibilities? Praying that things will work out for you . . .

    I can certainly understand the mixed feelings. It is a tough time to be losing your job but I can certainly see that it would also be nice to have time to take breath. I know what you mean about helping with recovery - even though my job is crazy busy right now and I have just about had enough at the end of the work day, it has kept me going and feeling somewhat normal. And needless to say, the distraction is good. Whatever is best for you, I hope you get it!!

    Sorry about your job pinkpower. I tried to still work but after my first surgery they told me to take a leave of absents and they would pay me disability till i returned...its a good thing i did cuz i must be a wimp cuz there was NO way i could of worked during chemo (i really had a bad time with it) and i aplaud anyone that works during chemo. Why not just take the time off and recoperate while you have a chance if you can get disability...at first i went crazy not knowing what to do with my time but then i didnt have to worry about that to long with all the appointments and chemo and therapy and surgeries ect ect.

    It is terrible to lose your
    It is terrible to lose your job, but, I am glad to know you had it to get you through all of your treatments. I think staying busy with a job or just with whatever does help all of us to get through what we have to deal with.

    I hope you find a new job soon if that is what you want.

    Please confirm with your Human Resource department
    that 'Cobra' insurance will be offered to you .. Pre-existing condition and all. If I am not mistaken .. you will pay 1/3 the cost of regular premium for 9 month, then full prem. the next 9 months.. total 18 months of Cobra. Please elect to take Cobra, as you will find there is NO agency or group willing to take on Breast cancer as a pre-existing condition.

    This is what I have found out here in the 'Golden State' of California. No one will touch me .. with my breast cancer. My insurance runs out 9/30/10.

    Pinkpower i will play lotto tonight and if a win guess what??
    i will see to it you will never have to worry about money, i had to work right after lumpectomy with drainage still in and thru four chemo's, breast infection and 33 radition treatments. I felt it took me away from my beast that was inside and made me fight even harder. Hugs!!

    Hoping that you find another job pinkpower if and when you want to. Could you use this time to just relax some or do you need to go back to work?

    Cancer is covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act, you may have some recourse there or even qualify for SSI or state assistance. You may not be able to keep your job, but you might be able to get unemployment and SSI.

    Thanks for words. Luckily for me, my insurance is thru my husbands job. He works for the state of Florida as a correction Officer, he pretty much has a VERY secure job. Even though the money or what will be lack of in a couple of months concerns me,(Im only human) it is what it is and I'll just have to trust in God to see us thru it.

    Since you are still in treatments, you may want to talk to your doctor about putting you on disability if Florida has a state disability program. I know in CA disability will pay more each week than Unemployment does.

    If that's not an option, at least you do have your husband's insurance, and your unemployment benefits, and ALWAYS the support of this board.

    Sorry for your job situation. I can relate to it since I lost my job on the day of my last radiation treatment. I felt devastated. I took several months off before I started my job hunt. I am glad that you have insurance. Look at this as a positive way to relax and enjoy free time with family and friends.

    That is great that you still have insurance with your husband's employer. Going through all of the bc treatments and doctor appointments is quite costly.

    Good luck to you when you start looking for another job. Let us know how you do!
