Alison - I'm not an expert
and have had only 1 treatment so far. I am also 50 - How do we handle it?? We take one day at a time and we just simply LOVE each other. We get our strength from Jesus Christ, our family, friends and co-workers. My husband has been the best. He has taken all pressure off me regarding the house. When I'm feeling bad I can do nothing and he insist I do nothing, when I feel good, he lets me do whatever I want. He's been to every appt and is there when I need him - even if it;s just to hold me.

Welcome to this site, though I'm very sorry for the reason you're here.
I have not had to deal with a recurrence, or even a scare yet as I haven't gone back for my first follow-up mammo yet. It is never too far from any of our minds, however, so I can at least imagine what you must be feeling right now and my heart goes out to you.
There are many ladies who have dealt with a recurrence and have beaten down the beast yet again, so I'm sure they will be along to encourage you and give you hope to move forward with this new battle, if you do indeed have to fight it.
Like you, I had only been married a few years (we just celebrated our 4th anniversary) when I was diagnosed at age 50. It is not easy on either of you, but at least you have each other to hold on to for strength.
I will be sending my positive thoughts and prayers your way.

So sorry to hear the fear in your comments Alison. I just had BLM last week, so I haven't started treatments yet. Because I had to get off my arthritis meds a week before surgery my neck has been especially stiff. I have osteoarthritis that has caused degenerative disc disease. My spine surgeon is the only one that I did not contact regarding the bc. I see him in September. I'm praying for you that there is nothing that can't be fixed in your neck area. I certainly hope no cancer has spread. Try to stay positive and you will get through this.
Although my husband is there for me he is a very quiet person. Unfortunately he had some kind of stomach bug the day I came home from the hospital. He's still not feeling well and only doing what really needs to be done - like cooking and the laundry. We do ok....

You are way ahead of me as far as what's happened to you, so far I've on ly had the diagnoses news and my first round of chemo was last Wednesday, they are trying to shrink my turmour. (gawd I hate that word)
I don't have any advice for you regarding the husband, I have been married 20 years and there are days I think I have the absolute best husbnad in the world and then he goes and proves me wrong by saying something stupid or being insensitive or just being him. I love him more than anything and deep down I know he loves me but this cancer is surely going to test the strongest of relationships, how can it not??
Anyway caome here to talk to all of us, we know what you're going through.

I am very sorry. First of all welcome to the site. You will find compassion and understanding here along with humor, good laughs and real life experiences. Second, let wait for the PETScan results. Hopefully it is not that we all scarred to face -recurrence. Here on this board we have several brave solders who have been facing recurrence and undergoing treatment. We will be thinking and praying for you and your husband.
I was diagnosed at age 46 with stage IIIC. I had, mastectomy, reconstruction, Chemo, and radiation. I decided not to do nipples and any other improvement of reconstructed breast. Yesterday I went to outdoor pool and had my laps. Regardless of outcome of your test you will get through and win.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. I am pretty wiped out as I'm sure you are too. Don't worry about the hubby, he'll get better, feel guilty for getting sick, and them treat you like gold. Blm took awhile for me to recover from, I did the tram flap reconstruction after I finished chemo last december and have been very very very happy with the results. My biggest issue post blm was fluid build up on my chest, I had to be retubed for drainage a couple of time during chemo. Since recon I haven't had any trouble at all. I was a DD and now I'm a nice little B. I love it! God Bless You and keep you!0 -

Welcome to the group. Got my fingers crossed it's not a recurrence. I too was a tnbc, no nodes involved, simple mastecomy right breast, no resconstruction. Chemo, no rads because no cancer cells found in breast tissue after mastecomy.
There are three pink sisters on this board who are currently fighting a recurrence as well. I guess if it happens we just do like before, one step at a time, day by day...only this time we are not newbies and know what to expect. Not fair tho huh? Once should be enough.
Please keep us posted with your Pet Scan results...we are all praying for a good outcome.
