Hi Friends,
We met with ****'s onc today and the PET/Cat they did on Wednesday showed all clear. We are very happy with these results. As you know he had surgery on May 13th and they felt good that the margins were clear. The plan is for 4 months of Folfori + Avastin. The onc here and Dr. Lenz will talk over the weekend and confirm that treatment. They ran a bunch of tests of his cancer and the oncs office here said they did not get the results that Lenz faxed so they need to follow up. **** will probably start chemo on Tuesday. He has been off since March 27 and is not looking forward to chemo again but we are hopeful that if there is remaining cancer it is killed with this round of chemo.

On another note, a bit of an update on our family. Thursday was my birthday and our 16 year old daughters birthday (both of us June10). We were just singing happy birthday with cake and all when our 13 year old went to the bathroom and had a lot of blood in her urine. Then she was in tremendous pain in her back. Within 15 minutes I had to leave with her to the ER (older daughter in tears because 16th birthday dinner was ruined). As I was driving her over the mountain to Honolulu she had a Grand Mal siezure (she has epilepsy). I had to pull over, call 911, administer emergency seizure med rectally, and wait for the ambulance. The ambulance took her to the ER with me following. She was in horrible pain. When they used a catheter on her, her urine was the color of dark tea. They had to give her 2 doses of morphine. **** came to the hospital at 11:00 as I was so worried about her. They were talking about all sorts of very scary kidney things. They admitted her to the hospital and at 3:00am she had a coke colored urine. I was so scared. However, at 6:00am Friday she had a fairly clear urine. It looks like she passed a kidney stone. We are home now. I got home at 10:30am today and **** and I went to the onc at 10:45am. We are very pleased with the good news but we are all very tired.

Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers for **** and our family.

Aloha,
Kathleen

    Hi Kathleen

    Kathleen,
    Oh my goodness...

    Kathleen,

Oh my goodness... You brought tears to my eyes. Have you been through the wringer or what. Glad to hear you daughter is doing better but what a scare.

Glad to hear that **** had a clean scan! Chemo stinks but it kills cancer so we love it too! I did the same thing after my HIPEC. 4 months of Folfiri w/ avastin.

    Oh and Happy Birthday!!!

    XO

    Jennifer

PS. Guess who is in HNL for the weekend?

How strong you must be, Kathleen!
    Kathleen,

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you and your "Sweet Sixteen" Daughter and CONGRATULATIONS to you and **** for the clean scans. That is wonderful news! But I am so sorry about your younger daughter's seizure and kidney stone. I hate that she was in so much pain and you were so frightened for her. Enough already! None of you deserved that. But it sounds that no permanent damage was done - just a lot of anxiety and loss of sleep. So I pray for your whole family to get some good rest this weekend.

David was on the same chemo that **** will be on. It's hard on the liver so watch those numbers but it works. David's liver tumor disappeared with it for quite awhile. **** will see some hair loss, too,but most guys handle that part well. I am sorry he has to get back on chemo, but I am confident it will be just the insurance he needs. Let us know how he does with it.

    Take care of yourself, too.

    Hugs and Healing,
    Priscilla

    Kathleen,

Y'all have had such a time of it! I'm so very glad about ****'s news, and we'll keep praying for continued wellness for him. And I'm so sorry about the scare with your daughter, but I'm glad that is turning out not to be quite as scary as it looked at first.

Oh my goodness you have been through so much - and happy birthday to you both. So glad to hear of the good news on the scans but so sorry to hear of your daughter's episode with the urine and with the seizure. You all have been through so much and just hoping that things stay on the positive road for you all now. Glad she is doing better and that things have seemed to get better. You are such an amazing couple with tons of inspiration. You are always in my thoughts.

    Emotional roller coaster
What an emotional roller coaster of a day. So many emotions...no wonder you are all exhausted.

I can't tell how so very happy I am for ****'s great news.

I am glad that your daughter is doing better and sending some healing prayers.

My heart also goes out to you 16yo daughter....Im sure she felt like it was her special day (and yours too) As much as she understands that what happened was unavoidable..I can feel her sadness. I hope she can have a grand celebration another day.

    Smiles,

Goodness gracious. If it isn't one thing, it's another. I can't help wondering why you had to go "over the mountain". I had to do that once when my mother was ill, and I wound up having to make that trek every day for months, when she was admitted to St. Francis. But I'm sure there must have been a good reason. I guess that it was just a kidney stone is good news?

My wife and I were shopping today at the Kailua Safeway, and it occurred to me that one day I will surely run across you there.

I'm happy to hear that ****'s tests and prospects continue to be good.

    Greg,
    Hi Neighbor,
We go over the mountain because Kapiolani has all of Katie's records and they are very extensive. Let's put it this way, we go in the ER or up on the floor and at least 1/2 the docs and nurses say, "Oh hi , we remember Katie." Castle is a great hospital too but the folks at Kap know Katie.

You'll need to come up to me at Safeway to say hi cuz I don't know what you look like. :) **** was in Safeway yesterday, if you see him say hi.

    Aloha,
    Kathleen

    here we go again
So scary about your daughter! Hope she is totally OK now.

Great news about the clear scan - yea!!

I've just started chemo again, after a long break (one year). So, I can certainly sympathise with what **** and you will soon be going through: "here we go again". If it's any consolation -- I survived my first cycle with reasonable side effects and no nasty surprises (new 'cocktail') -- here's hoping **** has a very smooth ride.....
