Anyone with thyroid issues after breast cancer diagnosis? I am waiting for a 2nd ultrasound result and I am sure I saw little white dots, the kind I saw with my breast cancer...calcification. And the technician drew a little arrow to them. Still waiting for results. I can't help but to think the worst.

    Hi Lizzie
I had my thyroid issues before bc. I had Graves Disease and had radioactive iodine treatment. I sometimes wonder if that had something to do with the bc years later. Try and stay positive and I'm sending positive thoughts and hugs your way. Good luck.

    thyroid response
My thyroid lit up when they did my first scan back in the fall of 09 when I was first diagnoised. They did a blood test and decided there was no problem. I had a second ct scan in Feb. and it was still lit up so they sent me to a thyroid doctor. I have an enlarged thyroid. I had an ultrasound done also. My thyroid doctor says I have low thyroid and has put me on medication. I have asked him several times if there is any connection with the breast cancer. It seems I know of a lot of women that have thyroid problems and have or had breast cancer. He says he does not think there is any connection, but we do not know everything about how our body works. So, some day they may find a connection. I also have a friend that had thyroid cancer. She had it removed and had radiation and is doing wonderful now. Sending good wished and prayers that they find no cancer.

My thyroid was on a very slow decline for a couple of years, that is it become low. It did get to the point that the doctor suggested I take medication for it. However a month later I got my BC diagnosis and my doctor said that sometimes low thyroid is brought on by another illness in my body. I did not take the medication. I was still low before surgery however after surgery in January 10 my thyroid returned to normal. I thought chemo would fry it but so far 4 rounds of AC have not. I am hoping my thyroid remains normal.

I wish you well and hope that it is nothing serious.

My underactive thyroid was a side effect of the mantle radiation i had for Hodgkins in 1990. It fried it and i had to have TFT bloods done annually ecer since. My levels were borderline for a number of years then they dropped below the line so been on Levothyroxine for about 3 yrs now i think.

    Thyroid........
I developed Grave's Disease (hyperactive thyroid) shortly after finishing chemo and radiation. The endocrinologist and onc both feel it is a result of the chemo.
I have been on meds and the Dr. has been trying to get my levels near normal since last November. Not there yet. I'm told that it takes awhile and I must be patient. However, my thinning hair (grown back after being bald) and my shaking hands are not fun....

The thinning hair is the worst part for me. Luckily i can disguise it quite well but it is very thin around the front hair line and my parting looks quite wide. My tiredness eased after starting medication so thats better but i still bruise like a peach! ;-)
