5 years ago, on this very day, I was in surgery to try to save my life from invasive colorectal cancer....saved for my second, breast cancer, 5 years in August...today, my oncologist released me back to my GP!!! YEA!!!!

    I am so happy for you!
    I think I have read a post from you before talking about the colorectal cancer and it peaked my interest. I was going to research it, but of course with my chemo brain I forgot....and now I am. The reason is because when they did the PET scan they found my ulium was thickened and I had to get a colonoscopy the day before my bilateral in case there was cancer they could do surgery then if needed. Well, no cancer...so they say. It was crohns. Well, over the past months I have lost all faith in my GI doc and I changed to another which I meet with for the first time in June. Anyway, when I would have appointments with the onco I would see the posters on the wall for colon cancer symptoms and signs and I have all of them! It scares me. I have made my onco swear that he absolutely did not see any cancer hot spots in that area, but I am still very scared. I guess when I meet with the new GI he will help me more with understanding that it isn't cancer and explain more about the crohns. It is all just so new to me. Do you mind me asking if you had crohns or any IBD before being diagnosed with cancer or was it totally off your radar? Thanks for any info you can give me and congrats on beating down the cancer!     Totally off my radar....
    I had been having frequent loose stool, but I chalked that up to stress...raising 2 kids by myself while keeping my business afloat....

    Unfortunately, the symptoms for colorectal cancer (CRC) and for IBS or crohns are very similar. It is good that you find a GI guy that takes you seriously, I'm living proof that someone can have more than one primary site cancer in their body at a time...but I know of many that have troubles with their bowels without it being cancer, so breathe...June is just around the corner, and thankfully, colorectal cancer in most cases is very slow growing.

    Do you have any familiar history of colorectal cancer? Or lynch syndrome (endometrial, colorectal, ovarian)? Make sure to share anything like that with your new GI...my grandfather died from CRC....and my mom has had endometrial, and my sister, anal cancer...

    I apologize to my daughter often for the genetic pool that resembles a septic tank...ROFL!

    Go Kathi, go Kathi, go Kathi! You give an entirely different spin to Cinco de Mayo, don't you? My niece and I were "reminiscing" that 7 years ago yesterday I started chemo! So, Kathi, we both get to celebrate a form of Independence, don't we?! Free from cancer! I know that is a bit different from saying free OF cancer, but we appreciate where we are regardless!

    Congratulations to you~ and may you celebrate many, many, many more times!

    Yes, we are celebrating big....just booked a cruise for after we get to Europe....all the sights of Spain and Italy!!!! I am sooooooo excited!!!!!!
