pet scan shows activity five weeks after oxi and 5FU Push

My son last fall had 6weeks radiation and six weeks 5 Fu Push then re-section, a month later a reversal of the illy and then four months oxi every other week ending in March.
The Onc Dr said she feels he is cured. Four weeks later he has the port removed. Just a couple of weeks later he has had a Pet Scan ( last Monday. The surgeon calls a week later and wants to do a sigmoidoscopy on Wed, May 5. He was told a week ago he has a tear (a guess a fissure). The surgeon stated that it is very early to be showing activity. Could this be inflamation from being constipated? Help. I believe that our prayers have shown us that he truely healed. What do you all think?

    I have a fistula too
    the radiation can do a number on the body. I developed a fistula (perineal) 3.5 years after radiation. It can be repaired. I have not had mine repaired because it's very small. It's a watch and wait kind of thing. Continue to trust God.

    I guess I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. Usually, when I (personally) see the word activity I relate it to "cancer activity". What kind of activity specifically is the surgeon referring to.

    We have no expeience here with radiation or fistulas.

    If you read this you have posted this question 10 times. I'm not sure how to remove a post but could you possibly remove the other 9. Thanks.

    Hopefully someone will come on to be more helpful.

    I would appreciate more information on your fistula.
    I'm interested in hearing how you manage your small fistula and how you define "small" in relation to your fistula. Do you use an ostomy bag?


    My husband had a resection surgery (his third) in November. He subsequently developed a fistula (entercutaneous fistula). He was hooked up to a wound vac for weeks to try and close the fistula. Finally, in February, the fistula closed. Then it opened again in March and continues to be open (although sometimes it releases very little fluid and sometimes it releases a good deal of fluid). My husband has had a major recurrence and our surgeon and oncologist believe that the fistula re-opening may be related to tumor activity. My husband is now back on chemotherapy (vectibix, xeloda and oxyliaplatin). The doctor tells us we can't use Avastin because of the fistula.
