Does anyone have a FREE source for ratings on supplements? A dietician I spoke with warned me to be very carefull with vitamins and supplements because there are many bogus kinds on the market. I checked 2 websites that evaluate and rate these things but they both have membership fees and while they aren't much ($25.00 to $50.00 per yr.), I figured I would check to see if anyone knew of any "reputable" sites that had free info first. One site I checked mentioned some supplements that had extremely high amounts of lead in some of their products and another brand contained only a small portion of the beneficial ingrediants they claimed was in their's. This inconsistency could easily explain why some people see benefits from supplements while others don't. Also, if not free, what source for recomendation of vit. & supps do you use (website, dietician,nutritionist,doctor,etc..)...
Thanks

Understanding Herbs and Botanicals in Survivorship - from MSKCC
If you have the patience, watch through these videos - lots of good information, including what to look for on the labels of vitamins and supplements to tell you that they are good.

Or, if in doubt, you can contact the Integrative Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan-Ketterig Hospital, and they will answer questions. There are contact links on the web pages.

I suggest you rely on self-policing, which should work for large national/international companies. A news story revealing a contaminated product would very, very bad for business, for a large firm selling many millions in vitamins or supplements annually, so it has a strong motive to be super careful about quality control.
