Dale just can't tolerate any sort of solid foods at this time. He has severe lower abd cramping with any of them. We have tests ordered next wednesday to rule out a small bowel obstruction. He is drinking four 8 oz cans of ensure plus per day. At 350 calories per can we are getting about 1400 calories. Saw the surgeon on Friday and and he wants us to supplement that with tube feeding. Tried to get the tube feeding at Wal Mart and they have to order it for us. It looks like, though that compared to Jevity, the Ensure Plus actually has more calories and nutrition than the Jevity. We see the nutrition specialist on Wednesday. I just want to be sure we are on the right track to keep him as health as he can be. Does anyone have any recommendations for liquid supplements.

Very worried that he won't maintain at this rate...... Where is the best place to get the tube feeding from???

Thanks

Mary Lou

    Liquid nutrition
    Hi Mary Lou-
My husband has had good luck with a nutritional drink called Nestle VHC (Very High Calorie). It has 560 calories and 23 gr of protein. We showed it to the dietician and she said it is complete nutrition if he drinks 4 a day. They are 8 oz cans so it is easier for him to get them down. I believe that it has really helped him maintain his weight because he doesn't eat enough otherwise. The only problem is that you can only buy it online. I found it for $31 a case of 24 and it usually arrives within a few days.
    And thankfully-he likes it!

    Good luck-
