Well, we got the horrible news yesterday during our follow up visit at MD Anderson. To recap, Jim had 8 weeks of Taxotere, Oaxaliplatin and 48 hours of 5FU pump every 2 weeks from November until Jan 2 weeks off with PET scan which showed 50% reduction in the tumor and only one small lymph node which he thought might be residual. On Feb 1 he began 6 weeks of Oaxaliplatin and 5 days of 5FU pump along with 28 days of Proton Therapy at MD Anderson.
After 6 weeks off, we returned for CT and PET scans plus endoscopy. Endoscopy showed no stricture and no tumor. We were feeling very relieved. Follow up with oncologist and PET shows 2 lesions in the liver, plus adrenal gland and more lymph nodes. We feel shattered.
Oncologist didn't have too many options to offer. Could do a repeat of original chemo protocol using Carboplatin instead of Oaxaliplatin because of the neuropathy he has now. No recommendations other than "trying another round of chemo".
He is feeling good now, eating well and regaining strength and energy.
What now? Kids and grandkids all shocked as well. He has been so healthy, strong and energetic all his life. Impossible to believe this can happen so quickly.

    Sherri,
Thanks for your reply and info on therespheres...is there some reason you chose Moffitt? I notice there are two locations in Texas that provide this therapy, one in San Antonio and one in Dallas.

I don't know you well, but so so sorry to hear this news. It is just shocking that he can feel so well and then have this occur. But also---it is a blessing that you are going to a place like MDA that found it quick---many on here have had a length of quality time and still going on--with stage 4. I pray for the best maybe that new treatment Bailey (i think it was her) recommended may help.

    So Sorry
    Hi Sally and Jim,
Sorry to hear of your recent news. What is up with this EC lately? It seems to be giving alot of our family here mets to the liver. My dad being one of the first ones to get mets there. Darn it! I know you are both very strong and determined. I know you both know how to fight this cancer. Put this all in gods hands. He will show you the best thing to do. Prayers will continue for both of you. Hugs and love.

Thanks to all for the prayers. We believe! God has taken us through so many trials in our 52 year marriage, that it would be unthinkable for us to distrust His love for us at this point. Throughout this day, as we have told our family and very close friends, we continue to hear that they are holding us in prayer, and we are so grateful. (But I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say, "I sure wish I knew the plan!"

    Sally,
    So sorry to hear that

    Sally,

So sorry to hear that news. But it looks like you caught it early since it wasn't there a few months ago -perhaps you can try that new therapy - it sounds so space age. Many prayers for you both and your family.

    Hugs,
    Cindy

    hi Sally
I'm so sorry to hear the recent news about your husband Jim. Please let us know if you decide to go the radiation route. My dad has stage IV EC that has spread to the liver. He had a PET scan on Friday and we're waiting to hear the results. I will continue to pray for us all.
