We're going to Alaska

I hesitated to post this but decided to...maybe it will help some one see that life goes on after a horrible diagnosis such as esophageal cancer.

After clear scans in Dec and again in April...we've booked a 15 day Princess land/cruise excursion to Alaska..and we leave June 11th...

Both my husband and I agreed not to wait to do things or travel...so we will while we can.

It's quite a trip and I'm the one going on the helicopter ride to walk on a glacier..I spent years teaching glaciers, taiga and tundra and now I'll see them up close. There's a million things to do and see...and we're both excited and grateful we can do this.

Prayers were answered, God has given us more time...I can barely believe we're going..last summer when our world was turned upside down we applied for passports and now we'll use them...my husband said let's get the passports because we'll need them..I didn't think we would...but we need them..

God sends us a reality check now and then...he has his reasons which I don't claim to know at all..

I sincerely hope that this news will give hope to some one who needs it desparately right now...we don't know what comes next so now is the time to enjoy life...last Fall we celebrated every step he made through chemo and radiation and struggled with our faith. It's better now and our faith is stronger.

  • So excited for you ...
    Orion,

How exciting for you to be planning this trip of a lifetime!

In September of 1997 my husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and spent our second honeymoon at Niagara Falls (my favorite place in the world). Just 6 months later in March of 1998 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Doc said it would take about 6 months out of my life to dedicate myself to getting better (along with a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation). My husband already made plans to "take me away from it all" and promised to take me back to Niagara Falls for our "26th anniversary". So we packed our bags and loaded the trunk of the car. It's all I thought about during my treatments and on my last radiation day I was delighted to tell everyone there that we were leaving straight from the docs office and heading right to New York! Since then we celebrated every anniversary cancer-free at Niagara Falls! What a celebration it had become, to celebrate another year of our love and another year cancer-free!

So have a great time on your trip! Enjoy the glaciers! Do as much as you can and celebrate every minute you have together! Make lots of memories!

    God certainly has blessed you!

    Hugs and prayers,
    Trish

    That cruise sounds like fun!
I had my surgery on March 8th and am currently working on recovery but when I'm able I've told my wife we're going on a trip. Maybe not a 15 day cruise, maybe either something shorter or a trip to Las Vegas. I've never done either. One thing about having and BEATING Cancer is it makes you appreciate whatever time you have left, no matter if it's 6 months or 50 years. I think about all the time I spent sitting in front of the TV wasting time that I could have been out doing things.

Have a GREAT time on that cruise!
