My daughter, age 25, was diagnosed with stage 3C colon cancer on Feb. 9. She had surgery and began her chemo on March 17. It's the standard Folfox regimine. The doctor told her there was a 99% chance she wouldn't lose her hair or at least she wouldn't lose much. Now that's she's about 3 1/2 weeks into it (2 treatments) she noticed her underarm hair is just gone. Her hair on her head is fine, just a few strands have fallen out. Does anyone else have any experience like that? Is it possible to lost hair elsewhere but not on your head? Thanks!

Janet

hi Janet when I was on 5fu I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes.

when I was on oxy I lost my underarm hair but kept the hair on my head...it started to thin after round 6 but i never lost all of it and did not buy a wig....

    good luck

    Yep me too
Have very little underarm hair but hey, that is a GOOD thing! Not a lot of leg hair either.

I was on folfox for 5 treatments before changing to Xeloda and my hair thinned pretty bad but I never got to the bald point. It was all ok because I had it cut, spiked, used "product", and looked like a cute chicken. Gonna' keep it this way...1 minute blow dryer at the most.

I am sorry your daughter is having to go through having cancer & chemo. She is so young!

Welcome to the group. Glad to have you here.

I didn't lose the hair on my head, but lost it from the eyebrows down. It all grew back after chemo, but I certainly didn't mind putting away my razor. (Some of the other hair loss was a bit disconcerting, however!)

Thanks very much ladies! I will pass on the word to my daughter to enjoy not having to shave for a while anyways!
