Hi I have been noticing that when I eat breads, pastas, or other items with gluten, then I have lots of leakage. But when I stop the gluten I dont' have the problem. I can even eat salads and fruits without having a problem. I had resection back in 2007 and have in treatment of some sort since march of 08. Antone else have this experience?

    Gluten = intestinal damage
    Being that my daughter and I have gone gluten free for 6 months now, I have been researching gluten issues of health. Gluten damages the lining of the small intestine (where the nutrients are absorbed) and it can wreak havoc AND be the CAUSE of intestinal cancers!!

    So you are on to something that your body is not tolerating a potentially dangerous substance. I highly recommend the book Dangerous Grains by Dr. Braly (?) I'm forgetting his name and I don't ahve the book in front of me but google the book.

    For me gluten does other things.

    Hope this helps.

    peace, emily

    gluten
    Gluten sensitivity and celiac desease are known side effects of colon resection, radiation and chemo damage. Especially the small intestine. It seems like the only thing I DIDN'T get...LOL

    I would try a low gluten/gluten free diet and see how you feel. I think you'll be amazed!

    thank you for the info
    I will look up the book. Thank you. The funny thing is...When I first went on a gluten free diet, my onc told me that it wasn't the gluten causing the constant leakage and urgency but that I had ascities in my gut area and the was slowing down my bowels. Well, I went back on gluten and had all the same issues. Afer a recent bout in the hospital I decided to quit gluten again and I'm doing much better. Plus the latest CT showed the ascities is almost gone and no new growth anywhere. I'm also taking the modified citrus pectin and am able to now east fruits and salads and veggies...yea! I easily give up gluten for fruits and veggies. So here to a gluten free diet!!!
