was diagnosed in march '08. surgery and 12 chemo treatments followed. was doing pretty well until feb 2010 when oncologist told me that my last ct scan revealed a "spot" on my liver. oncologist ordered liver biopsy for last week. went for biopsy last week. they were going to find the spot by ultrasound so they knew what they were looking for. doctor could not find anything with ultrasound so they did CT scan. they could not find anything with CT either. doctor that was supposed to do CT came into CT room and told me that he couldnt find anything on my liver but that the supposed location was a "very subtle area." i immediately called oncologist and asked what does this mean since doctor doing biopsy never said there was nothing there only that he couldnt find it. since then no one has told me anything. anyone else have a similar experience? what is the next step?

    Hmmm...
I think the fact that both the ultrasound and 2nd CT couldn't locate "the spot" is encouraging. Perhaps it is nothing to worry about. I sometimes have spots show up that are nothing. They keep an eye on them and eventually they drop from my consciousness, if not from the scan image.

When my liver surgeon wants a better picture he may order an MRI which provides a different type of perspective.

I think an appointment with your oncologist would help the communication problems. They should be able to give you some info to put your mind at ease. Or schedule you for another type of scan. MRI or PET. I'd keep after the oncologist.

Let us know when you get to the bottom of it.

    spots
    Hi
I have 2 spots on my liver. They did 2 MRI they said MRI can sometimes show liver better. They did not light up on PET. I am now getting CT every 6 months. I went to James cancer center to liver specialist, he concurs with my oncologist, keep scanning, wait to see if changes or growth occur, they are still very small, not sure if they could get a biopsy, and could be cysts or hemangioma (sp?) That's what I'm hoping. Maybe a PET scan and MRI are in order for you so they have some comparisons. Hoping for the best!
