My husband's recovery from colon cancer recurrence surgery in late November continues to be problematic. His initial diagnosis of a very limited recurrence in the abdominal wall turned out to be more extensive than thought and required a resection. A day and a half after being discharged from the hospital, it was necessary to return because of the development of a serious surgical complication, an enterocutaneous fistula. The battle to heal the fistula resulted in two additional hospitalizations. Last week, after a spike in temperature and other symptoms of infection, he was readmitted to the hospital and diagnosed with a PICC Line blood infection (sepsis); the PICC Line was being used to deliver TPN (intravenous nutrition) to his body. After a major infusion of antibiotics, he is feeling much better.

Has any one here suffered from a post-surgical blood infection? If so, I would appreciate any counsel you can give.

Thank you to those on this board who have offered us unconditional support, kindness and understanding.

This is my husband's fifth hospitalization since late November. This battle is a daunting one.

    Sorry to hear this
    Hello Hatshepsut,

I am sorry I can't help you; I hope someone else can. I am sorry for all the hospitalizations; hospitals are definitely not my favourite place. Take good care of yourself.

    I'm sorry
I'm so sorry, dear. I have not had an infection, so can't help you with that. I just feel so sorry that your husband has had such a hard time.

    *hugs*
