Out of no where the breast will be itchy then go away. I had no pain after the lumpectomy, minor throbbing once in a while ... but no pain. I was totally amazed. Anyway, now it's bruising a little and becoming very sensitive. The itching sentsation isn't in one main place it seems to be all over the breast. Hopefully that means it is healing!

    That still happens to me.
I had my lumpectomy in March and I still have itching out of nowhere. I had it today and it just went away. My poor breast has been through a lot and I think it just wants to let me know it's still there. LOL. I wouldn't worry about it.

    Itchy nipple
I am glad to see your question about the itching. I had surgery 6 years ago. Now the nipple of the breast that had the lump removed is itching like crazy. I had my yearly mammogram Monday and asked the technician about it. She made a note but seemed to be unconcerned. Said maybe it is a nerve ending there at the skin. I am not too worried but it bothersome. I put cortisone cream on it today but it is still itchy. I may call the cancer doctor and ask about it in a day or so. It is winter time and my skin is dry and itchy in other areas too. Maybe I am just paranoid about that breast. Anyway, thanks for putting the question up.

    Itching
Me too - I had my lumpectomy 10/13/08 and just recently the breast started itching. When I went for my last visit to my oncologist - she said that it takes a long time to heal, all the nerves are reconnecting and sometimes it takes a while to start itching (a year???) but not to worry about it. Only problem I have with it is that it can be a little embarassing when I'm with other people.

I know what you mean ... have to be discrete when itching in public.

You're welcome! I've noticed it helps to wear a camisole (spelling).

I had a lumpectomy and internal radiation in 2008. Here it is 14 years later and the lumpectomy scar has started itching and it is tender to the touch. I'm wondering if this is an indication of a recurrence, or if it is just part of the lumpectomy "experience."
