Hello friends: Last week I posted that i was having fluid drained and a biopsy taken on Wednesday. I found out on Friday that the fluid in the ascites was positive. The tissue samples were negative. I start my secong round of Chemo tomorrow I am platinum resistant so I will have Carbo, and gemzar? Have any of you had this? My oncologist said it is the most common second dose. Mt CA125 is 38 so I think it was caught early. I am once again ready to fight the good fight. Are the side effects different with this? I really don't know what to expect and as always you help to lighten my load! Thank you. Carol

    I am second round and having Gemzar/Cisplatin. For me side effects have been more intense but it had only been 11 months since carbo/taxol.

    I have been more nauseated and my chemo is broken down into a & b as it is harder on the kidneys.

    And for me just as harder or harder on my bone marrow. But then again, who knows how long it takes for our bodies to bounce back from being on chemo before??

    Have not lost all my hair this time, but thinner. Have finished 1/2 of my 7 treatments (have had 1a&b, 2a&b, 3a&b & 4a) and always behind as counts are always too low.

    Neulasta for white counts work great, but Neumega for platelets not helping.

    That is how my second round is going!! But my CA 125 is dropping every month!! Praise the Lord the chemos are working on the cancer too.

    But as we are all different, I am sure someone else will have a more positive report and actually using both Carbo/gemzar mix.

    Hi Carol, I was so hoping it was just lymph fluid but good news is tissue samples were negative. This is a very good combination. I am sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers your way. Hugs N Prayers Bonnie

    Hi Carol,

    It is fortunate that the tissue samples were negative-hopefully the chemo will clean up any loose cells from the ascites.

    I was diagnosed 1C seven years ago, meaning an ovary had burst and had released cells into my abdomen, but there was no ascites and nothing from the tissue samples taken.

    Good luck, and let us know what chemos they pick for you!

    Carbo is short for carboplatinum, isn't it? I had carbo+taxol for the first 8 treatments, initially. Then I had carbo+doxil for the first dose when my CA125 was up to 434. It was hard and I felt bad for about 8-10 days and they dropped the doxil and just went with the carbo for three more doses. Now I have had 13 doses all together with carbo and had an allergic reaction this time so that will end. It really works for me as my CA125 is down to 53 now. I'll find out tomorrow what we will switch to for the December dose. I have an infusion every 4 weeks. Saundra
