"CYP2D6" test? (metabolizing tamoxifen test?)

Has anyone had the test to see if they are metabolizing tamoxifen? I had it done over three weeks ago and am still waiting for the results. Does it usually take this long? I've been taking the tamoxifen for a little over a month now and after reading the posts here decided to have the test if my insurance would cover it. They did approve it, but it seems to be taking forever!
Thanks for any info.

    yes
I had it done but it was not long as I recall. But I had it done before I started tamoxifen and wasn't paying as much attention.

    Cool!
    Jenny,

I JUST got blood drawn last Wednesday for this test. My oncologist told me that he should know the results in about two weeks.

I won't start on my tamoxifen until the test results come back.

I hope you hear the results soon.

    Take care.

Jenny, luckily for me, they tested me for it before it was perscribed... It took 4 weeks before I learned of my results,... poor metabolizer...therefore I won't be taking the Tamoxifine...hang in there...

    Had Test
I had the CYP2D6 test on October 22nd and my doctor had the results back within a week. I called him to get the results, and his nurse told me I was getting "intermediate" metabolization, whatever that means. She didn't know, and my doctor told me he'd discuss it with me when I see him on the 18th of this months. He told me to keep taking it because I was getting some good out of it. Anyway, I'm still taking it and will find out in a couple of weeks what "intermediate" means. I've been taking it since the middle of July.

Thank you for the information. I will check with my oncologist on my next visit. I have been taking tamoxifen without CYP2D6 test.
I guess because I have experienced side effects the Tamoxifen is working. But I would like to know for sure.

Everyone should have the test to make sure that they can metabolize tamox before taking it. As some have shown, they are poor metabolizers of it and therefore, it would do them no good. Hope you get your results soon.

    Thanks everyone!
Thanks everyone for your info - this helps! I know I'm impatient but I don't want to take this if it's not doing any good!

    Metabolizing Tamoxifen
There is an extensive discussion of this topic about low, intermediate and high metabolizers of tamoxifen on breastcancer.org. I go that website quite often and have found several discussions regarding tamoxifen as well as aromatase inhibitors, for me, specifically, Arimidex. You may want to check it out. Hugs, Marilynn
