Cysts?

I do not know where to turn for this, as I only thought of you ladies that have helped me out so much these past months.

I am scared of my family history, yet I am determined to battle whatever comes to me.

I have been having pelvic pain since this past Monday and I went in for a doctors appointment on Thursday. As the days went by, I noticed that the pain was more and more severe.

My doctor did a pelvic/rectal exam (my first rectal.. but it wasn't too bad) and a urine sample.

He told me that I have a bladder infection... I don't know how, seeing as I gulp water like a fish, LOL

However, he noticed that my left ovary is enlarged.
I began to cry.

He believes that I have a cyst and that it is not cancerous. This morning, I have a pelvic ultrasound. I really am not too happy that I can't use the bathroom at the moment.. LOL I have drank a ton of water!! It isn't a nice feeling at all!!

Anyways, are painful cysts normal? :(
It feels like there is something in my body that is not supposed to be there... it is hard to describe.

I know a lot of young women who have had painful cysts and they were not cancerous. I would imagine that would be the norm. But I can understand your feelings, my daughter would be feeling the same way.

Cysts can be fluid filled which is not uncommon. They can have blood in them, rupture and that is it. Having a pelvic ultrasound is good (my daughter has had one and CA125).

    Keep us posted.

    HI Brittany
I can understand your apprehension..It's kind of weird, but I, too, had a bladder infection at the time my mother was diagnosed. I also had a cyst. They are very common. I think your doctor is doing the exact right thing, doing an ultrasound, and the doctors can tell a great deal from that.So you should have a good idea very soon. That being said, I think it;s smart, to find out about your family history. Has anyone other than your mom have this OVCA? You may want to talk to the cancer center your mother is being treated at, and see if they might want to do a genetic test..Keep us posted.

    CYSTS
    Hi Brittany

My daughter has ovarian cysts. She is 41 now and has had them since her teens. The cysts gets worse when she has her period. Her gyn put her on birth control when the cycts first appeared and the birth control pills help. Her gyn keeps checking the cysts, and with her they are just cycts. And yes they can be very painful. I have two cysts in my left breast, have had them for years. Do mammongrams every year and about every 5 years they do an ultra sound of the left breast to see if there is any change, there is none. My breast will get so sore sometimes I can,t put my arm down. For bladder infections a good preventive is tea or cranberry juice. I am glad the Doctor is doing an ultra sound, this will put your mind at ease.
    My thoughts are with you

the strange thing is, i have
the strange thing is, i have been on birth control for nearly 5 years. i don't get cramps and i have forgotten how it feels, so the feeling was very odd.

i went in for the ultrasound on friday morning.. with a full bladder! it was the most uncomfortable feeling ever! i just wanted to run to the nearest bathroom!!

a pelvic ultrasound was done, along with a transvaginal and kidney.

i got a call from my doctor about 3 hours later with the results. he said that my left ovary has a small cyst on it and i should continue taking aleve. aleve is an anti-imflammatory and will get rid of it.

    thanks everyone :)
