Hi all, yep got a question for ya. But first a little info. Two and a half yeas ago I was a fat girl, and I busted my butt to loose the weight managing to loose 100 lbs with diet and tons of exercise. Was dx a year ago and lost even more weight. 25 lbs to be exact. I started Tomoxifen in May.
Since then I have done nothing but gain weight. I don't eat alot, in fact my nutrional levels are always to low in my blood work. I do get exercise, not as much as I did pre-treatment but I do get exercise. The weight has really started to pile on in the last month. A little weight gain is ok, but as a diabetic I really cant afford alot, for me it will cause extra health problems, esp since I gain all my weight in my belly.
So anyone else experince this? Yes I do plan on talking with my dr about this on my upcomming appt.

Kudos to you Tj for losing all of that weight!!!
Hi Tj! I think you look GREAT! I am not on Tamoxifen yet, as, I am delaying it, and, may not take it at all. I just finished rads and my rads oncologist did not want me on it while getting zapped. One of the things I have read and heard about tamox is that it can make you gain weight. It might be listed as one of the side effects. I will have to look it up. Ask your oncologist and see what he says and let us know.

    I haven't been taking
I haven't been taking Tamoxifen long ... only a few weeks so I can't answer definitely but I have noticed that my tummy feels off. I feel kind of naesous. I've always eaten healthy, and now I'm craving fried foods, which is new for me. I think because of the naesea, I don't want to drink water ... the thought of it is kind of repulsive ... but what I do want is Perrier water. It really is ridiculous and EXPENSIVE so I'm hoping this passes soon. I haven't gained any weight, but I will if I keep eating what I'm eating. Do let us know what your onocologist says.

I saw where weight gain is
I saw where weight gain is listed as one of the side effects for tamoxifen.

    yes for me
My experience with tamoxifen (taken 1987-1994): I gained total of approximately 20 lbs. Real bummer. My oncologist had warned me about wt gain and told me to watch it and I really tried! The good news is that I lost it all within a year or two after stopping the drug. Everyone's experience is different though, I'm sure.

    Thank you Dawne!
I was just going to post a new discussion to ask if anyone is getting nausous on the Tamoxifen and you just confirmed my suspiscions. I am having the same problem and some favorite foods, for whatever reason, are starting to have a funny taste to me. I was afraid that maybe the large dose of calcium and vitamin D may have been the culprit, but they didn't bother me prior to taking the Tamoxifen. But sometimes it takes a while to work on your system. My body is trying everything to reject this drug, but I really want to give it a chance. As a result, I am losing a few pounds (which is ok) but at the same time, need to keep my healing going with proper nutrition. Here's what really blew my mind....I am having a difficult time drinking water too! Haven't found anything I feel like drinking. If you make something like chrystle Light, since it's made with water, does that count as drinking water? Anyone know? Hope our nausea's get better! Pammy

    I thought I was crazy!
I'm sorry that your having those affects too ... but I am somewhat comforted that I am not alone! I can't drink plain water. As stated earlier, the Perrier makes it better for me. I don't want to drink 7-up all the time because of the extra calories ... I have yet to try water with simple lime or lemon in it ... that may make it better. I think the Crystal Light would be fine ... anything, something to keep you hydrated.

I don't know what's up with the taste either. I haven't had so much a taste problem, it just that nothing sounds good to me, except friend foods. I don't know what the deal is with the fried foods. Always during PMS I would crave such things, but now I'm craving that kind of stuff all the time. I've always been a disciplined eater, and this is all new to me.

Hopefully, Pammy, this will get better with time. You just started the Tamoxifen again ... and maybe ... hopefully it will subside with time!

    Let's hope so!
    Love,
    April
